Connection with Mac Mini 2020 (m1 Big Sur)

I recently got a M1 chip mac mini and I'm attempting to connect my EDGE 1030 units to it but they do not mount. I've tested using 2 different units and 3 different cables. (all three cables work with my older mac), so I suspect some firmware issue won't let the mac mount the edge.

Anybody else have any suggestions?

  • Just wanted to share that I also have problems with a Macbook Pro 14 M1 Pro. Tried many cables without success and only way to make it work was to press the Lap button before connecting the device to the computer. This forces the Garmin Edge to be in Data mode and only by then I could see the device mounted and interact with Garmin Express.

    Hope this helps

  • FWIW, I have discovered one way that works consistently for me. I have one of those small male usb-c to female usb-a adapters. If I start my Edge 1030 normally, then plug the usb-a into my MacBook Air M1 using the adapter, and next the usb-micro cable into my Edge, the Edge always mounts to my desktop and I can use it with all the Garmin apps. This also works if I plug the usb-c adapter into the usb-c (through) port of my usb-c hub.

Using a regular usb-micro to usb-a cable and plugging that into my usb-c hub never works.

  • Hi. What is your exact Selore model? I would like to give it a try.

    Many thanks.
