Garmin Solar Watches

I just received an email about Garmin's solar charging watches. The ad says:

Durable solar charging lenses bring you weeks of battery life.

This seems like a great idea for cycling computers, which sit face up to the sun for hours at a time while we're riding. Even though the 1030 and the 1030+ have great battery life, solar charging could render it unnecessary to charge the battery at home.

But the solar panels are not under the entire display, e.g. on the fenix series they are round and sit on the little outer ring outer side of the display itself. I still agree it would be a nice addition since the edge mostly looks skywards. But the solar technique just add's little extra to the battery life, i dont think it'll made a huge difference, beside the unit's price beeing quite more expensive.
