Garmin 1030 - suddenly, recovery time jumped from hours to 4 days

Hi,

I am using G1030 and F6s. After a long time, those two devices are able to sync recovery time at least (training status maybe in future?).

But today, another bug is puzzling me. After a rather easy ride (108 training load) on my favourite track, my recovery time jumped to 4 days from zero. Last time (two weeks ago) I had more reasonable 24 - 32 hours on the same track depending on the intensity (158 training load).

I also noticed that I have a new report in F6s widget - temperature acclimation (hope that's correct name, English is not my native) 2 %. I have no idea what that is yet.

What is going on with the recovery? I have seen same issue here in the forum two years ago - it should be fixed by SW update back in that time.

Thanks for the advisory.

  • Hi,

I believe the temperature acclimatization is a measure of how well your body has adapted to the current ambient temperature you train in. As you train more in the heat your adaptation increases and is taken into account in the metrics such as recover time etc.

My only guess on the recovery time is if you are using both devices to record, perhaps it has taken this into account ? i.e. it's giving the recovery time for a combined duplicated activity.

  • Thanks for the reply; I am not using both devices to record.. I mean I have my F6s on the wrist while riding, but activity recording is done on Edge 1030. Temperature recording is for some time part of the Edge 1030 as far I remember, but the acclimatization is new (F6s training status widget I have a sun symbol). Today its indicating increase of 8 %, by the time of the ride it was 2 %. Outside temperature was 26 - 22 °C (depending on the open field vs woods trails). Today its about the same temperature.

But its definitely connected. I found this on the Garmin feature page:

    • Compatible devices1 provide acclimation notifications and corrections to your VO2 max. estimate and training status when the outside temperature is above 22ºC (72ºF). Temperature readings for this are based on the weather data from your connected smartphone rather than sensors in your Garmin device.

    • Full acclimation takes a minimum of 4 training days.

    • Heat adaptation will begin to decay after 3 days of no heat exposure training.

So I guess thats the reason for the 4 days. But I don't get it to be honest. Previous ride in the more less same conditions with heavier effort was done in average 20 °C and resulted with approx 30 hours of regeneration. Are those 5 °C such a big deal? And I don't understand what those percentage means.. 8 % of what? Of acclimatization? So when I hit 100 % if outside temperature stays stable, those 4 days will revert back to "normal" regeneration calculation?

  • I think it just detected that Covid-19 quarantine has hit your shape pretty hard !
