abrupt changes in course

Hello everyone,

I usually train indoor by connecting my edge 1030 to my Elite turbo. When I choose to ride a course I have saved in the gps I notice  big changes in elevation during training. for example, yesterday I rode a flat course, but there's a lot of overpasses and bridges. Each time a I go through one the elevation drops to the road below and I have to climb back to to the programmed road. Anyone knows why this happens?

Thanks in advance!!

  • My guess is that you recorded with a GPS unit that have no altimeter or that you have overwritten the elevation information. Your ride seem to follow the map profile rather than the captured elevation by the altimeter. The Edge 1030 has an altimeter. If the activity from a different device than maybe not.

You could check the original activity you try to follow in Garmin Connect (website). On the right on the activity page, just below the image of the Edge 1030, there is an information field called "Elev Correction" and make sure it is disabled. If enabled it substitute map elevation (DEM) to the capture altimeter elevation.
