Saved Locations

Is it possible to create saved locations with Garmin Connect (or some other tool) and load them onto the 1030?

  • Garmin Basecamp will do, just as some other programs. Then export as .gpx and place in Newfiles directory on the Garmin using Explorer (Win) / Finder (Mac).

  • I just logged a suggestion that they maintain custom POI's on garmin connect so that they can be loaded on multiple devices (and new devices) without having to re-enter them.  Also to allow destinations to be shared from a mobile devices contact list.

  • I use BaseCamp but just drag and drop the way point. Tracks and routes also drag and drop but once opened associate with a FIT file and I cannot manage them with BaseCamp like on my Montana 610.

I have added way points on my 1030 but will have to go see how I did it. It was not very intuitive.

  • Save a location
    1. Click Navigate
    2. Click Search (Search for location to add)
    3. This will bring up a map with a location pin and the address on the top of the screen
    4. Click on the address
    5. This will bring up the detail address with the Ride Button and a Flag Icon
    6. Click on the Flag Icon
    7. The location will be saved to the Saved Locations
    Delete a location
    1. Click Navigate
    2. Saved Location
    3. Click on the location you want to delete
    4. This will bring up a map with a location pin and the address on the top of the screen
    5. Click on the address
    6. This will bring up the detailed address with the Ride Button and a Edit Icon (Pencil)
    7. Click the edit icon
    8. A list of actions will be provided
    9. Scroll Down to “Delete Location” and click
    10. Delete Location confirmation box appears
    11. Click Confirm
  • I wrote a “workbench” program for the Garmins that runs on Windows. It does all sorts of useful stuff.

It lets you drag and drop Google map links (or any link with coordinates) to create GPX files that can be used to create locations. You can also drop lists of coordinates as text to create the locations.

There is also BC2GE, which lets you copy Google Map locations into BaseCamp
