When you create a course you can set the target speed, there is a field for that. Then the virtual partner goes at that speed. It still does not take into account terrain and wind so it will be off. I also find it useless. But by setting that speed in the course you may at least make it more realistic.
I like a lot the climPro feature and the explanations of Aweatherall are very good.
As Aweatherall wrote, the result depends on the quality on the elevation data.
A course done on garmin connect gives bad results because the elevation data are not good.
That's why I was used to use strava route IQ which gives good results, but since the garmin ouatage strava route is not working any more.
Do you know if Strava route IQ will work again and if not what courses planning sites can I use ?
I know that I can make my course on strava and the course will go directly to the edge but in this case It is garmin elevation data which are used and the climPro segments are not correct.
Thanks in adavance for your answers.
It should be back up soon. I spoke with Garmin on Friday about it.
In the 2 Data field Choices, The Average Power data field, is it the average power since the start of the activity or is it average since the start of the climb ? I hope the second option would be available, it would be great to be able to aim at an average power for an iconic climb like the Alpe.
No it is for the whole ride. Your best bet currently would be to add the lap average power option to the page and then press the lap button when the climb starts
Thanks for the work around tip. I guess this would be an useful fature to be added by the Garmin development team, they could add it also to the segment screen. Average speed for the segment/climb would also be nice.
