LiveTrack - have to change settings from default every time

I use LiveTrack on every ride for safety reasons, so that my family members can see me on the map. The problem is, when loading the LiveTrack screen, it doesn't remember any defaults. They have to keep changing the map from Here (what is Here?) to Google, and miles to km's (for use here in Canada). Doing so for every ride is a nuisance. Can these preferences be saved in a cookie, or encoded in the link, or be part of my account, somehow?

Yeah, this craps me off as well, seeing that the vast majority of countries in the world use the metric system. And there's a bug in the web site coding that causes the distance balloons on the map to be a random mixture of statute and metric after the display settings have been changed from statute to metric.

Out of curiosity how does LiveTrack make your ride more safe? Don't get me wrong I agree that when Garmin offers this option it should work but I don't get the added value of this option.
  • It's rather simple. My family can follow me along when I go out for a ride, especially on a long one. They do this nearly every time. If I haven't moved for a while, I'll get a text from them. Or eventually a call. Suppose I was riding solo, and had a fall. They'd be able to find me, or at least direct someone to me. But more than anything, it's piece of mind, and that's worth money. Strava has a similar feature, and lots of people pay premium for it. I'm glad the Garmin's is free. I just wish it was a bit more reliable and polished. But generally it works well.
  • If Live Track is not working correctly for you, then try the free app Road ID which has the same features. I've never had a problem with it.
