Remaining Ascent and Ascent to Next not Shown

Hi There

I have a question.
I navigated on a route using the Edge 1030. I have monitored the two data fileds ascent remaining and ascent to next. However, there are no data shown in these fields, the fields remain empty for the whole tour.
Why are these fields empty. Do I have to enter a total ascent as target. I guess, these fields should show the remaining ascent to the next route point as well as to the target of the route, isn't it ?

Kind regards,
Tom

    Same issue here

  • If you are following a course then the "Remaining Ascent" should work if there is elevation data in the course file. Ascent to next is to the next course point so if you don't have any course points it will use the end point.

If you a are navigating to an address or location rather than following course I don't believe that the 1030 currently computes the ascent remaining.

Thanks for the response.  I will try to upload a file.  I was thinking it would just work just by riding.  I'm in Colorado and it would be awesome if it just natively calculated the end of climbs.  It knows when there is a sharp turn ahead so thinking they will figure this out too someday.  Might be wishful thinking.  Thanks again.

  • It would not know where you end point is, you might be planning on doing more climbs after completing the one you were on.

  • "It knows when there is a sharp turn ahead so thinking they will figure this out too someday.  Might be wishful thinking."

The device only needs to look ahead a 100 feet to detect upcoming turns. So, it's a constant, predictable load on the computer. (Keep in mind that these are really slow computers.)

Figuring out climbs would require work that would depend on the length of the climb. Doing that for long climbs would likely make the device unusable.

The device also has no way of determining what path you are going to take.

Guessing your path for the next 100 feet might be reasonable. Guessing it for as long as a climb might be really would not be reasonable.
