Touch Screen Issues

Is it just me? I just can't get a hang of the touch screen. When I first got the device I whacked up the sensitivity so all I needed to do was a quick tap to bring the screen alive. This didn't appear to make any difference so have now gone to medium. It's better but there is a massive lag on reaction. So instinctively I touch again and then of course by then you have drilled down several menus. I then need to back back out or re touch. Any thoughts?
  • Mine seems to work OK, occasionally the system is a bit slow to respond and I need to press twice but thats relatively rare. In his review, DC Rainmaker has a video of him using the 1030 and pressing various buttons and you can see the response, maybe compare that with yours?

You have to tap a little harder on the screen than usual with the 1000 in my opinion. I think you have to get used to that.
I had to get used to it, however after using the 1030 for 2 weeks now, I don't find this a problem anymore.
Advantage is that you are able to swipe the raindrops from your screen without any problem, where the 1000 was already moving up 10 screens.
As told before, a famous quote from Johan Cruijff (indeed, the soccer player): "Every advantage will have a disadvantage";).
The same with the brightness and contrast of the screen: it will give you longer battery life. And besides that, the 1030 is a cycling computer, not a flashlight .
  • While it does have the three sensitivity settings, I’ve left mine on the default “medium..”

What is taking me some time to get used to is the fact that you have to do a little more than a conventional “tap.” By this I don’t mean press harder, but a bit longer. (I think often when one taps and it is not recognized, the next impulse is to press harder which kind of naturally makes you stay in contact longer.)

Personally, while I’m still getting used to this, I would have liked to have had it the day I was editing my most-used profile and the ultrasensitive Edge 1000 screen registered a spurious tap on the trash can icon. In what is a poor UI design decision, the result confirmation pop-up puts the “Go!” (I think it’s just a check mark) in the exact same position as the trash can. Before I knew what was happening, my profile was gone!

My Garmin Edge 1000 is now 2 yrs old; it has been used almost daily. I have had various issues on and off. Firstly not recognising cadence sensors to the point where I had bought two back ups and then from October not connecting to my smart phone. Garmin' s customer service advice is pretty rubbish. My only solution was to do a factory reset on my device. Which worked for about 4 weeks.

Garmin warranty only lasts 12 months.

the latest issue is the touchscreen. It no longer responds to touch. I swipe left or right to change screen and the top down menu appears. If I press the bottom left return sign, I can see the screen pressing about 1cm to the right. Or I press the screen and nothing happens then whilst riding the screen starts changing buttons. I have tried another full factory reset. Initial results are not promising. It appears to be working now but I'm not confident it will last. Not looking forward to having to find £500 to replace it.

How much is a used Garmin that doesn't work properly worth on eBay?
