Treadmill Distance Inaccuracy After Latest SW Update

Ever since I installed the latest software update my treadmill distances and speed per mile are considerably off. My 970 was calibrated to the treadmill and while there were always slight differences, the differences now are 2+ minutes/mile and at least .5 miles off of the actual distance.

Also, the sleep timing is off.  On the In Focus screen the sleep times are relatively correct but when I go into the sleep section to edit them, those show a timezone 8 hours ahead of Pacific Time for some reason.

How can I fix these things?

  • The Beta seems to be responding well to calibration. After two easy runs, I got it pretty accurate to a 9:30 min/mile pace. Today I did a threshold workout and it was underestimating the faster pace by about 10%. Let’s see how the last calibration turns out.

  • Not sure how this bug is not being fixed... so frustrating

  • I had this same issue on my Fenix 8.  I started seeing about 1.4x distance on treadmill runs after the latest official software update was automatically installed on my watch. It happened, even after I saved with a treadmill calibration factor for several treadmill sessions.  I enrolled in the beta program yesterday, and installed the latest beta update. After performing an outdoor walk (30 minutes) and an outdoor run (20 minutes) to let the watch re-learn my arm mechanics as suggested above, I tried a treadmill run today. The first run on the treadmill still had a mis-calibration of 1.4x, however, after saving that treadmill run with a calibration factor, I did a 2nd treadmill run, and my distance is now correct on the treadmill.

I believe the beta update has corrected the issue for me.

  • I have the same issues as well, both distance and pace, this started when i paired my FR970 to coros arm band HRM. How can to resolve the issue or just wait for another update? Current version is 17.33.

  • Same issue for weeks now. No information i can find to fix It. Every easy run at 10/11min per mile is coming up as 7:30/mile ish on my watch resulting in 17 mile runs when i ran only 12. I’ve recalibrated my treadmill and know that’s not the issue. Please garmin fix this issue.

  • same problem: I run 3 - 4km on my treadmill and since last update get 2x distance errirs constantly. also my recovery times are absolute rubbish. After a 5km easy run I get recovery times of 40+ hours. I run average 5km to 8km outdoor runs and 3 to 4km treadmill runs 4 to 5 times a week, alternating treadmill / outdoors. Super annoying as the watch is less than 6 moths old and imo was VERY expensive. Tried everything to fix no luck.

  • Yeah it’s a pain, seems we are stuck until they push an update. If It wasn’t for the gps being so accurate, I’d use a cheaper option.

  • I am facing similar problem with my forerunner 970. Literally all my runs are very inaccurate.

I feel like my watch is overly calibrated and it’s giving wiered pace even I calibrated it match with numbers on treadmill.

example today I ran 5 miles on mill and my watch recorded 10 miles. It’s way off.

  • Am I the only one that my Garmin is listing slower than the actual pace?  Everyone else seems like there's is much faster.  I installed the Beta this weekend and ran Tuesday on a treadmill.  It was still way off, showing a 16:00 pace instead of the 9:40 the treadmill stated.  I had it calibrate and am going to run another 4 miles on the treadmill today, so we'll see if it does any better after calibration.

  • It's unbelievable that this company messed up this badly. A $700 fitness tracker that specializes in running can't track treadmill anymore. Tarnishes their reputation. I was going to switch to my old FR55 for treadmill, but it's so old the battery won't last a 30 min activity. But I can confirm a chest strap is a good workaround. I have an HRM Pro Plus. Enable pace/ distance in Connect. I start the treadmill activity on the watch and laid it in the cup holder. Accuracy was almost perfect. Calibrated a delta of 0.01 miles on a 4 mile run. Download HR data. Then save activity. Glancing at the watch during the run, distance was good but real-time pace was displayed as all over the place. Reviewing in Connect, pace per mile was correct. I don't know what would happen if I actually wore the watch at the same time. Anyone tried that?
