is anyone else having issues with Unified Training Status?

since getting an Edge 850 i've had all kinds of weirdness going on with my training status metrics. My best guess is that Garmin has changed something with unified training status which effectively no longer supports the FR965 (probably triggered by the E850).

everything used to work nicely with my E530 but now its like the different devices are talking different languages to each other and the result is a mess.

The previous update had made my HR sensor unreliable. I start my run and it jumps to 150 then maybe 10-15 minutes later it's back down. On other activities it's reading maybe 60 BPM, but by other methods im easily double that.

I accepted the update like I always do and the update seemingly went through. This evening I went out for my run, started up the run tracker waited for the gps to lock and hit the start button. All my data fields read 0 (distance, pace, cadence) heart rate showed - - indicating the sensor should be on but not giving any data. Additionally the haptic vibration didn’t go off when I pressed the button.

It seems like the update messed up the sensor/peripheral driver in the watch and now the data fields aren’t getting populated correctly.

I looked on my watch’s about screen and saw that I am now on bundle 28.05, but a couple of fields were showing 0.0.0 - if it’s helpful I can reply with that info, but it feels like a bad update overwrote something and now everything is messed up…

Is there a way to reflash the full firmware/software package either through Garmin Connect or the express desktop app? I poked around for a while but couldn’t find anything

After using my Forerunner 965 for running for several years, I have recently picked up cycling. I immediately noticed there is something wrong with the Garmin Coach suggestions for cycling. The target HR is far too low for base and long run sessions, being more suitable for recovery sessions.

My running base/long runs would be targeting ~160 bpm, which is reasonable considering my zones. For running, base/long rides are targeting 130 bpm, which is recovery pace for me.

Other session types are not affected. Tempo ~180 bpm and threshold ~190 bpm, which is reasonable for me. Only base/long seems to be experiencing the issue.

I have searched for this particular issue in the Garmin forums, and I can see that is has been mentioned in several previous posts, see for example

Suggested workout HR for cycling seems low

Used one night. I've previously tracked sleep with FR965 for several years.

I woke during the night and noticed my FR965 optical HR sensor lights were lit. I ignored it. A few hours later the watch sensor was still lit up, I touched the watch and it went dark.

The ISM seems to have sync'd and gathered metrics in the morning. However my nightly stress is very low (1 or 2 vs usual 8-12+) during the several hours that I suspect the FR965 was lit up. I theorize bogus values from the watch have been combined with metrics from the ISM. Body battery charged +50 to 100 after three hours. Training Readiness is 100. All abnormally high.

Is the flickering watch indeed related? Is this a solved problem for anyone? The watch was "sensor up" on my nightstand last night. I suspect the sensor turned on sometime after lights out, but I didn't check initial state. Previously I've noticed the FR965 will detect bogus heartrates when the sensor is down on my dark bed spread. Tonight's experiment will be sensor down on a white piece of paper.

I'd like avoid fiddling each day with the watch menus to disable the optical sensor. I'd appreciate any advice.

2 year old 965 will not add any new BT sensors.

My 965 will not add any new sensors. It repeatedly says "failed to connect" when I try this for BT sensors. I've powercycled, etc but haven't yet tried a hard reset.

This started 2 days ago when I received a new Stryd footpod to replace an older model. I connected it as a footpod just fine (over ANT+) but when I attempted to connect it as a Powermeter, it failed repeatedly. I decided not to add it as a powermeter (it works fine with Stryd without it) and forgot about it until I tried the next day to add a BT speaker (Noxgear) and it recognizes the Noxgear as a BT headphone but repeatedly gives the "failed to connect" message.

I then tried today to connect it to new Shokz Open Run headphone that I just purchased. Again, same thing - it recognizes it as nearby but "failed to connect" - when I click "retry" it just spins and spins and never connects until after 5min+ I give up and exit out.

Recently, since June 6, I had a big issue with my sleep score, even sleeping 5 hours the watch was measuring my REM correctly.

Then it's now 12 minutes or just 0, which it's impossible, I am using my Apple watch to match the information, ofc apple watch measures it very good, I can't understand how a machine over $500 can't do this simple task.

I requested help to customer service and the answer was pathetic, they said this is not a medical equipment and to reset my watch, but this is interfering with my whole training as it says I must sleep 9 hours all the time and change my training schedule all the time.

Also the fact I haven't been injured once. However, I have noticed a few shortcomings that I would like to bring to your attention using a specific real-world example.

I am a recreational runner who regularly participates in races of varying distances, from 5K events to full marathons. I enter these races into my Garmin event calendar, set goals for them, and categorize them as primary, secondary, or non-priority races. The issue arises when these races approach or take place.

For example, last weekend I had a 10K race scheduled. The event had been in my calendar for months and was initially marked as a non-priority race because my primary goal race is a marathon taking place three weeks later. Earlier that week, I changed the 10K race from non-priority to secondary, hoping Garmin Coach would adjust my training accordingly and schedule an easier day before the race. Based on previous experience, I knew that leaving it as a non-priority event would likely result in the race being ignored entirely by the training plan. Unfortunately, changing the priority did not have the desired effect. Garmin Coach still scheduled a 51-minute tempo workout the day before the race. I decided to skip that session because of the weather and because it did not feel appropriate before a race. Instead, I would have expected a short shakeout run or an easy recovery-focused session. More importantly, Garmin Coach did not appear to recognize that I was racing on the scheduled race day. It ignored the scheduled 10 K race completely and rather than accounting for the 10K race effort, it suggested also a long run for the same day.

The current behavior makes it seem as though race priority influences long-term planning, but not day-to-day training decisions as the event approaches. From a runner's perspective, this indicates that the system is not fully incorporating race events into its decision-making process. A runner cannot realistically race a 10K and complete a scheduled long run on the same day. I believe there should be a mechanism that allows users to indicate when the AI is making an inappropriate recommendation or missing important context. In addition, users should have the ability to provide meaningful reasons when skipping workouts, such as:

Illness or injury

Jet lag or travel fatigue

Severe weather conditions

Participation in an unscheduled race or event

Excessive fatigue or lack of recovery

Ideally, Garmin Coach would use this information to adapt future recommendations rather than simply recording a workout as skipped.

My overall experience with Garmin Coach has been very positive, which is exactly why I am taking the time to provide this feedback. I believe these improvements would make the coaching experience significantly more adaptive and realistic for runners who participate in multiple races throughout a season. I would be happy to provide additional examples, screenshots, or training files if this would help your product and engineering teams investigate the issue further.

28.05 Recording Nap but not sleep

Hi.
