Same issue here on 28.05. Battery went from 100% to 15% in 5 days — previously the watch easily did 12-15 days on a charge. Started about 5-6 weeks ago, no changes to watch face, no new Connect IQ apps installed, no settings changes I'm aware of. Power-down restart didn't help — drain continued at the same rate afterward.
Device: Forerunner 955, software 28.05, GPS 13.00, CIQ 5.2.0.
Anyone found a fix besides waiting for the next patch?

I had not updated for months, but updated to 28.05 a few days ago.

I didn’t notice at first, but now my battery is draining fast. Fully charged only lasts a short day, no activities, watch face not changed.

Anyone else seen this?

Might just be a faulty battery, but the change was so sudden…

I have the same problem!!! I did everything , restarting, resetting, and deleting... none worked... Any ideas? It's frustrating.

Over the past couple of weeks I struggled with a broken 27.09 watch. I tried to downgrade to 26.08 but the problems remained. The about screen continued to display the asterisk and the watch was painfully slow. During runs, cadance dit not work at all. I tried everything, full reboot, factory reset, the fridge trick etc. All with no result.

I contacted Garmin via X and the recommended me to upgrade again to 27.09 via Garmin Express. For me, that fixed the problems (at least for now 24 hours in). Fingers crossed that it remains this way but I wanted to share this in case it could help someone else too.

No sleep detected

Even though there have been multiple updates to the watch in the past few days none of them have fixed the problem that started last week that either there is no sleep detected or it is only tracked for a very short period of time. Pulse data daytime is working as it should and also during activity but no sleep detected.. 4 night ago I got like 1,5 hours of sleep while I in reality must have slept at least 8 hours. The night after no sleep. Then I had a 100 miles race so that night I did really not sleep but after the race I did sleep and I did get heartrate data all night but not single minute of sleep recorded by the watch.

Some people reporting excessive battery drain after an update has been a pretty common post Having watched the forums for several years the most common solution is to try a power down restart. It doesn't always work but it has worked many times. If that doesn't work you might try a software reinstall, followed by a restart.

The restart is painless and quick to try. I do a restart about once a month just because. My GPS stopped finding satellites once, a restart instantly fixed the problem, since then I decided a periodic restart was reasonable preventative maintenance.

Since Garmin still doesn't offer a font-size setting, I built a free watch face for exactly this: Big & Clear — the time in the largest digits the watch can render, high-contrast color schemes (including yellow-on-black and black-on-white), and two optional data fields that stay readable.

Once again I am asking community to Share Ideas with Garmin

I guess this is very important even for those who has good eyesight today but will get eventually older

In the past gauges has indicator which looks like Garmin Triangle logo

Today this is only tiny dash across color arc. Very difficult to spot if you need glasses to read.

Please compare those images. This is not exactly what we (people who wear glasses) see but quite close. Answer yourself which is better. Versions on the right were made in Paint

It was recently confirmed by Garmin, that reported Ideas has better chances to be implemented than reporting bugs or posts here.

Hence, if you think this is important to you please use that Share Ideas page to let Garmin knows.

Idea:

Bring back small triangle on various gauges especially Pace or HR, while performing activity. There are people in this world, which needs glasses to read. In the past gauges has triangle (quite similar to Garmin Logo) indicating actual effort. Today this is tiny dash across red / green / red arc. Very difficult to spot by person with limited eyesight.
It would be nice to have it back for all watches not only Sport and Fitness.

Random 955 Solar Bricking

Hey all. I’m in touch with support and they’re seemingly willing to help me out with a discount on a 965, as the 955 (solar) is no longer in their inventory.

It’s been a good run, but I was pretty disappointed to have lost my 955 to a completely random brick. The last thing I remember doing was using the timer function (maybe with morning report on?), and then leaving it on the “clock” function page for a few hours. It wasn’t until I tried to leave that page that I realized the screen was totally frozen and nonreactive. Pressed and held the Light button, and things shut down. Ok, cool.

Except it never turned back on. I tried holding the Light button, performing the hard reset options (pressing and holding the top and bottom right buttons, then hitting light again). Tried all of those plugged in to the wall, then plugged into the computer (to see if a disk would at least show up). Bought a new cable and retried all of those, again. Tried fridge method. Cleaned the contacts with alcohol, retried.

No luck. At an early point, before getting to the plugged in options (it had a lot of battery left, at least 80%), a triangle did appear on the display with I believe a lightning bolt in the center if I recall. But that was short lived and before I tried anything with the new cable.

I don’t know if I missed something, but any retries have been fruitless. Went and returned the new cable today.

Generally, just bummed to lose the MIP display and the option for Solar charging, meager as the power collected was. I thought I’d probably have to bite the bullet and switch to AMOLED at some point, but I wasn’t expecting it to go down like this. Or this soon.

Open to any last resorts, if this sounds familiar to anyone. Otherwise, I’ll be thinking about my next move [emoticon:c4563cd7d5574777a71c318021cbbcc8]

I don't have any good news for you unfortunately.

- Does anything ever appear on the screen, even for a split second?:
If it does display anything at all, the motherboard is probably still OK and replacing the battery may help.
- Does it get very warm/hot when it is plugged in to charge?:
If it is, the battery is probably defective and there may be collateral damage, replacing the battery is unlikely to fix it.
- If it is proper dead and unresponsive, and none of the holding buttons while connected to a PC or not, don't work:
there is still a fraction of a chance that leaving it alone for months will, over time, completely discharge the battery beyond what battery protection is in place. If this does not fully kill the battery, it resets the most low-level state of the device such that it may boot when connected to a charger. But that only ever worked for me with a bricked Fenix 5 Plus.

If you want MIP and a device that you can replace the battery in, buying a used Fenix 6X or 7X (bigger - easier to work on) may be an option, although the Fenix solar+sapphire variants are not the greatest displays IMHO. Coros has devices with MIP displays. Can't say if they are any good, never tried, they don't meet my requirements.

Plug the watch into a computer.
- If necessary, manually engage mass storage mode using these steps: My Device Is Not Found by Garmin Express
Access the Garmin drive once the device communicates with your computer.
- Windows: Windows Key + E to open File Explorer. Select This PC. Open the Garmin drive labeled as your device model.
Select the Garmin Folder.
Locate the NewFiles folder, but do not open it.
Delete the NewFiles folder.
- Delete the entire NewFiles folder, not the contents.
Return back to the Garmin Folder and locate the RemoteSW folder.
Open the RemoteSW folder and delete all of the contents within this folder.
Disconnect the device from your computer and allow it to boot up.

The device should now proceed past the startup screen and power on fully.**

That seems to do the trick.
I left the watch on loop during the night and it discharged. In the morning I connected to the computer with the Garmin Express app and removed the file inside "Garmin > RemoteSW".
When i checked the watch it was now working and charging. Any of this might have helped to solve the issue, I am not sure which one.
But it's working now (I just had to pair again the watch with the phone).

Thanks for the post, 7167399 . You've already done some troubleshooting, which is great. I also recommend connecting your watch to a computer to see if it will progress past the blue triangle. If it does, use Garmin Express to try syncing and applying any available updates.

My watch turned off automatically and then started the boot process, I saw it get stuck on the "preparing maps" step, staying there for 2-3 minutes then restarting through that step. I watched this for 1h 2 hours easily. Then it stopped doing the maps step and just shows the Blue Triangle of death on loop forever.

I have already tried the following steps:

Power off the watch. This can be done by holding the Light button (top left) for up to 30 seconds. ENSURE THE WATCH IS ACTUALLY REALLY OFF, NOT JUST BOOT LOOPING.
Press and hold Back (the bottom right button) and Start/Stop (the top right button).
Press Light briefly to power the watch on while holding the Back and Start/Stop buttons - ONLY PRESS LIGHT BRIEFLY, TO TURN ON THE WATCH, DO NOT CONTINUE HOLDING LIGHT (holding the light/power button for 10+ seconds will force restart the watch, which will interrupt this procedure).
After the first beep, release Start/Stop (so now you only continue holding the Lap button).
After the second beep, release the remaining Lap button. The reset is successful if the watch powers up and goes through the initial setup steps.

And it reaches the "hard reset" step but at around 50% it turns off again and starts the blue triangle again.

I have contacted supported but no response. Is this now an expensive paper weight?

Watch stuck in boot loop

The watch won’t boot, displaying blue triangle followed by versions menu, over and over.

Tried to plug it to a computer, she is detected but not mounted, I can’t push an update with webUpdater, even if the watch is detected bywebUpdater. The watch is not detected by Garmin Express neither.

I already tried both hard and soft reset methods.

Nothing worked,

I am using the original cable, and since the device is recognized by my PC, I’m confident that all four USB wires are functioning correctly. I’m also not using any USB adapter or hub.

Regarding the screenshot, I don’t have time to provide one at the moment. However, whenever I try to remove RemoteSW, Windows reports that I don’t have the required permissions. As an IT, I can confirm this is not a Windows issue. I have also tested it on macOS with the same result.

Looking through the forum, I can see that many users are experiencing issues with the current firmware. At this point, I’m hoping Garmin releases a patch as soon as possible.

I had also problem with HR sensor on Forerunner 955 but only during cycling activities (rate around 200 BPM) and downgrading to 26.08 suggested here forums.garmin.com/.../hear-rate-spike-on-forerunner-955-when-cycling fixed the problem for me.

I have two Forerunner 955 watches, both purchased about a year ago. Since the latest software update, both watches have developed the same heart rate sensor issue.

Before the update, they were working properly. Now the optical heart rate sensor sometimes works, but most of the time the readings are missing or unreliable.

Because both watches started showing the same problem at the same time, it seems unlikely to be an isolated hardware issue. I rely on these watches for training, and this issue is affecting my ability to train properly.

Please investigate this issue and let us know whether there is a fix, workaround, or upcoming software update.
