Garmin works reasonably well for steady treadmill runs, but interval workouts are a different story. The watch has to estimate pace from wrist movement, and when the speed changes frequently, the recorded pace and distance for individual intervals can be very inaccurate.

A real example from my treadmill workout today:

I completed 20 × 1:40 intervals with 50-second recoveries at 10.0 km/h.

The actual interval speeds set on the treadmill were:

Intervals 1–10: 14.7 km/h (4:04/km)

Intervals 11–13: 14.8 km/h (4:03/km)

Intervals 14–19: 14.9 km/h (4:01/km)

Interval 20: 15.0 km/h (4:00/km)

Final 1 km: 13.0 km/h, completed in 4:34

However, Garmin recorded most of the 1:40 intervals at around 5:10–5:23/km, with some as slow as 5:51–6:06/km. The watch recorded only 0.27–0.32 km per interval, while the actual distance was approximately 0.41 km.

So, for example:

Actual: 1:40 @ 14.9 km/h → ~0.414 km → 4:01/km
Garmin: 1:40 → 0.31 km → ~5:20/km

This is not a small calibration difference — Garmin sees a completely different workout from the one that was actually performed.

Calibrating the total treadmill distance after the activity does not really solve this problem. A single correction factor cannot accurately represent a workout containing multiple speeds, and the individual workout steps still contain incorrect pace/distance data. Calibration based on such an interval session can also negatively affect subsequent steady treadmill runs.

Proposed solution

Garmin already knows the structure and duration of every step in a prebuilt workout. Please allow us to enter the actual treadmill speed or pace for each workout step, similar to how actual weight can be entered for individual sets in Strength activities.

For example:

Interval 1 — 1:40 — 14.7 km/h
Recovery — 0:50 — 10.0 km/h
Interval 2 — 1:40 — 14.7 km/h

This could be implemented either:

1. During the workout: allow the runner to confirm/change the treadmill speed for the current step.

2. After the workout: allow editing the actual speed/pace of individual workout steps in Garmin Connect and recalculate their distance accordingly.

For structured workouts, the planned pace could even be pre-filled, so in many cases the runner would only need to confirm it or adjust it if the treadmill speed was changed.

The treadmill already gives us the exact speed. There is no need for the watch to estimate it when the runner can simply provide that value.

This would make structured treadmill workouts much more useful for runners who train indoors during winter and would allow Garmin Connect to contain the workout that was actually performed, rather than an accelerometer-based approximation.

I have attached the interval data from today’s workout as a real-world example.

forums.garmin.com/.../24478827233.zip

Triathlon Sport changes

How do I change from swim to T1 to Bike on the Forerunner 955? Copilot Told me that it needs a press of the LAP button but then it changed the advice to a long press of the START/STOP button. Neither of those works.

Sensor HUB fails to load firmware update = no Pulse or steps

There have been a lot of reports around this and now I am getting rather frustrated with Garmin since they all the time say that I must buy a new watch since the sensor i broken, and it is not!

If the watch is not recording any pulse or steps you can verify that by go to About and then scroll down to Sensor Hub. If that shows something like 0.0.1 you have no working firmware. This workaround fixes the problem for me every time so it is clearly not the watch that is broken, it is the poorly tested software updates.

1. Connect the watch to a computer via the original cable. Most third party cable do not have the capability to transfer data. If you can see the watch in your file explorer you are good to go

2. Locate the folder GARMIN\RemoteSW and remove all files in there.

3. go to the "hidden" feature to reinstall software by going back to the about screen and there press the light button 4 times ( The screen will go white and dark 8 times so sometimes it is said to be 8 click) When you see the hidden menus clear ephemeris and reinstall software you go to the reinstall software and run that.

4. For me this will always bring back my steps and pulse and I am good, for now.

5. Almost always, the clock will however look for new packages and install them. and in 99% of the cases this new update will break the sensor software/firmware, again.

To avoid having new breaking updates, go to System\ program update and disable auto update and you are fine.

Every now and then you can do a new full install to get the latest updates to the clock but at least for me, if I use the auto update there seems to be some updates for the sensor that always, yes 100% of the time, breaks the sensor.

I have tried to explain this to Garmin so many times but the only response I get is that I can get a minor discount to buy a new watch. I will eventually buy a new watch but not because of this but because I need a new watch with longer battery life.

There is no need to put the watch in the freezer or any other workaround. This process works every time for me. The important part is to remove the packages that are in the RemoteSW folder on the watch. No full reinstall of software have brought the problem back so it seems to be the minor updates that has some bugs so if no automatic updates are allowed, this workaround works fine, at least for me.

Now, my watch displays a workout prompt under the "Daily Suggested Workouts" menu, but it is custom-titled with my Garmin Coach plan name. In the watch settings, I can see a newly generated weekly schedule (which seems to have reset my 11-week progress to Week 1). Are we supposed to 'share them as ideas' or post them here, I don't know.

# 1. Here's a bug re-introduced in 29.05 that I haven't seen for a very long time; Elevation glance, graph is often empty:
Usually there is 4 hours of history in the graph, but at times (~30% of the time) it contains no data. Can't say the steps to reproduce, only the circumstances:
FR 955 SW 29.05, device is connected to phone running Garmin Connect and Bangle.js Gadgetbridge
Data upload to Connect is disabled, data is synced via Gadgetbridge once a day. This has been the setup and use for years, no recent changes.
1) An outdoor activity has just been completed and saved (graph is empty rather often)
2) Any time during the day (graph empty sometimes)

# 2. When cancelling a timer alarm going off, the vibrate alert continues for 30 seconds. Haven't seen this for a while, now happens randomly, I'd say 20% of the time

There is nothing in the error logs except the usual: btf_music_controls, hwm_pmic_max20360_haptic, hwm_mag_mgr, FBT_intf inject_exercise_history, no memory dump, have not observed any spontaneous reboots, no missing data.

Is there hope for a new MIP Forerunner?

The Fenix 9 series has a few MIP models.
I have tried several things to fix that, but nothing works as expected.

One thing I would like to ask you - dear user community - is if someone could share yours battery stats like mentioned in my recent post here:

Troubleshooting guide for high battery drain - Garmin Connect Web - Mobile Apps & Web - Garmin Forums

I am referring to such screenshots

As you can see discharge rate between June and August looks quite the same.

Between those two days I have original battery (June) and new replaced (August)

Screenshots were taken with app from IQ Store https://apps.garmin.com/apps/923cd514-fe15-476c-855e-26846d2007ec

If by any chance someone has similar 24h span graphs from few years ago, when watch was "quite new" that would be even better.

I have run out of ideas what else to check and at this moment I incline to believe that problem is with hardware not FW.

But I will try to downgrade FW to one of previous versions and check again. For the record I have tried that already with original battery without great success.

Training Load, VO2 max not updated

Today my watch battery died just before i could complete the workout. This was in the Netherlands, GNSS interference is not a factor, the skies were clear and the road was going through open country, not a built-up area. Today I found errorlogs on the watch with numerous errors that point to issues with the GNSS data processing ("negative value in Cholesky Decomposition"), I guess the processing for a slow speed activity is quite specific and optimized for it, and it won't work well at high speeds

I suppose that choosing the correct activity type is quite critical for GNSS performance. Learned something new!

Forerunner 955 cannot find Edge 840 extended display

I am trying to setup my Edge 840 as an extended display. I had the bike computer added as an extended display previously, and was saved in the watch's sensors, but in my last workout I could not get it to connect, so tried to pair them again. Removed the pairing from both the Edge and the Forerunner, and started the process again but could not get them to pair. Tried with my Fenix 6 Pro and pairing completed successfully. Tried restarting both the watch and the bike computer but problem persists. Factory reset my Forerunner and tried it both before and after restoring my backup, and pairing still can't be made.

Has anyone tried using an Edge 840 bike computer with the 955 lately and succeeded? I am running latest, non-beta firmware on both devices (28.05 on Forerunner, 31.33 on Edge).

FR955 and Cirqa - a more or less useless combination

I own both a Cirqa and an FR955.

The fact is, there is no "TrueUp" for Body Battery or stress on the FR955.

(+) Alerts fired at the end of workout

When starting an interval workout, the audio prompt doesn't give me any details on what I'm supposed to do—I have to read it off the screen. But as soon as the interval ends, it plays the audio prompt with the instructions for the step I just finished. It's like everything is shifted or mixed up, so you end up getting the instruction for an interval right when you complete it, which isn't helpful at all. While it's not identical to the beta issue, I assume it's related given the similar behavior. I also noticed that sometimes part of the audio at the start matches—like the type of exercise or intensity—but not the duration. It only announces the correct duration once the interval ends. It didn't use to behave this way; before, it would correctly say something like: 20 seconds, 900 W.
I tested it with a Garmin Daily Suggested Workout, so I can rule out any typing errors in the steps since it wasn't one I created myself.

Forerunner 955: Massive active calorie spikes despite normal heart rate graphs (Last 6-8 weeks)

Hi everyone,

I am seeking a solution for a persistent active calorie tracking bug on my Forerunner 955 that started roughly 6–8 weeks ago. Before this, all metrics tracked perfectly.

The watch is recording massive, random active calorie spikes. However, my heart rate data does not justify these jumps, suggesting a software calculation glitch rather than a physical heart rate spike.

Calorie Widget- Shows an inflated active calorie count- with sharp, isolated vertical lines in the 12-hour timeline. Total active calories is 1167- of which 290 comes from a workout- rest all due spikes.

Heart Rate Widget- My resting heart rate is 48 bpm, and my current reading is 64 bpm. The 4-hour timeline shows typical, mild fluctuations peaking around 84 bpm—nothing high enough to trigger thousands of burnt calories.

I have seen similar reports from other users dating back over a year.

Has anyone found a workaround, or is Garmin actively

tracking this software bug?

Thanks!
