Broke the cardinal rule by updating my Garmin before major run. Saturday was a 51 miler to celebrate my friend turning 51.
During the run at mile ~44, I glanced down and noticed the dreaded blue triangle. Frustrated, I continued running cursing the sky. Quarter of a mile later, the screen returned to my in-flight activity (mile 44) and I had to hit the start button to continue on.
At the next aid station, I pressed the lap button to start the rest timer. The rest screen appeared, but the counter remained at zero.
Thankfully, my Garmin finished all 51 one miles. The strange observations post run were GPS and battery.
My buddy had a straight from the box 255. His battery was 63% and mine was 49%. End of July I completed a 42 miler with 59% battery and that was with full satellites under a heavy tree covered tight finger print trail. My 51 miler was out in the open straight path with out and back fingers.
Looking at the GPS map, simple curves of the road where missed and most turns were charted as right angles.
I have a 100miler at the end of this month and this new behavior, which is believed to be brought on with 12.23, has caused me to lose faith in my 955S. Prior to this recent update, the 955S performed flawlessly out of the box. It’s a shame that releases are rolled out with bugs and especially ones that impact core features (stability, GPS accuracy, battery) of a great watch like the 955.
