Garmin and Stryd Power

It is frustrating that the 955 does not support Stryd power natively. As a long term Stryd user I really hoped this would be the breakthrough moment. But no. To add to this frustration, I have now discovered, after working with Garmin support, that the source of the post activity battery drain on the 955 is the Stryd Zone connect IQ data field. So I've had to delete this and now cannot get the Stryd power figures on the 955 at all. So rather than a step forwards, it currently seems the 955 is a step backwards with Stryd compatibility. Hopefully this will all be resolved soon.

  • Well after having no issues so far, I went out and used the Stryd Workout App today for my planned Threshold workout. The app crashed half way through the workout! Emailed Stryd support, so will see what they say.

  • Why would Garmin support stryd power?

It supports the defined, public, and open power profile.

Stryd chose not to implement it.

Perhaps Stryd should implement the profile?

(and let people change their weight....)

  • What is the "defined, public and open power profile"? Newer heard about it. Would be interested in learning more about that! Thx.

  • My gripe with the FR955 and the Stryd footpod is that while I can create a powerbased workout in Garmin connect now, the built-in workout function of the watch uses the power values from my HRM-run instead of my Stryd footpod data for alerts.

My Datarun premium datafield recieves/shows the Stryd footpod data and can give vibrations and alerts, so luckily it is possible to still do a powerbased workout, but it is a bit messy this way

  • It has happened me two times as well with the Stryd Workout app. I have also emailed Stryd support since it's most likely is a software bug with the Stryd Workout app.

  • Well the Stryd support team haven't really filled me with confidence!

    Very good!

I talked to my coworker about this issue and he recommended these troubleshooting tips:

    1. Restart your iPhone and Apple Watch.
    2. Uninstall the Stryd app from the Apple Watch (leave the Stryd app installed on your phone)
    3. Install the Stryd app from the Apple Store on your watch
    4. Open up the Stryd app on your phone and go to settings > set up watch > apple watch to share the Bluetooth token.

Let us know if you are back to running with power.

  • Stryd have acknowledged a bug, but their Garmin developer is out of office until Monday.

I had another issue with the Stryd CIQ field tonight on my intervals. Recorded the first set fine, and when I saved the activity, and went back to start another set, it wouldn’t find the Stryd pod. The Stryd data fields are in the activity in Garmin Connect, but there is no data recorded.

  • Maybe, it is important, If paired as a Powermeter or not?

  • Their instructions for all Garmin is to pair as a footpod via Ant

  • I know. But if you dont pay attention, it is possible to pair as a Powermeter.
