For a few months I have ignored it and just adjusted the distance when running or cycling, but eventually I got annoyed by it.

So I dug deeper into the watch and found the ephemeris data (CPE.bin file in the Garmin/RemoteSW) present, but it seems the software doesn't pick it up ("CPE : Missing" in System/Info).
Deleting the file, the folder, synchronising with Garmin Connect, by WiFi and Garmin Express always brought back a fresh copy of the CPE.bin file, but did not change anything in the behaviour above.
Factory resetting the watch a dozen times (with different firmware versions), deleting the device's xml file or anything else I found in the forum did not help either.

So I have started to downgrade the firmware, hoping a legacy version of the firmware would downgrade the GPS firmware as well. Though I have tested a lot, the only firmware that does not get downgraded is the GPS - it keeps its version at 6.60 - if the main software is lower than its respective GPS version, the GPS version shows up with an exclamation mark like this "GPS : 6.60 (!)".

It was rather challenging to get legacy versions of the FR945, did not get them from Garmin, but have tested these:

Main software: 2.80, 6.20, 6.85 beta, 9.00, 9.56 beta, 9.58 beta, 10.40, 11.03 beta and of course 13.70

Firmware versions of other aspects of the FR945 get downgraded, like ANT/Bluetooth, WiFi, SensorHub and CIQ - just GPS stays on 6.60.
Is this maybe the firmware versions I have tested, do not come with a GPS firmware portion? I have also created a "force.tmp" file in the Garmin folder...

As the watch's hardware works perfectly well, getting a manual GPS fix without using the ephemeris data after approx. 30 minutes and the activity is flawlessly recorded, I assume the latest GPS update might have bricked the ephemeris data file to be picked up and used for speeding up the GPS fix.

Has anyone had this issue, too, and found a way to fix it? Or does anyone have other firmware versions or knows how to (temporarily) downgrade the GPS part of the watch's firmware?

I would lilke to reprogramm the GPS part of the watch's firmware - or downgrade and test - to make sure I can continue to use this really expensive piece of hardware.

Any help would be hugely appreciated!

chronic training load has stopped

chronic training load has stopped updating, I only get acute training load. Is it just me? or is it a more widespread issue?

Screen damaged and won't switch on

Hi,

The pace that my watch reports, and which is recorded in the garmin connect summary report, is slower than the pace calculated based on distance / km.

See this example from a superset:

The workout was 1.61 km slow, 200 m fast, 600 m semi-fast, 1.61 km goal pace 0.8 km slow. As you can see I had to rest a few times. The watch reported that I was way slower than needed. The highest speed given (and measured on my watch) was 3.39 min/km, in the 200 m fast leg.

Yet, if I just look at the time spent in each stage and divide by the distance covered, my pace was faster:

It shows the mean speed of the fast segment as 3.35 (clearly impossible if my max speed is 3.39) and of the semifast as 4.24, also way faster than the readings my watch gave me. The watch readings match what is in the report. What is up here?

Forerunner showing signs of water damage

I have been the proud owner of a Forerunner 945 since 2019.
I have just finished my first marathon and wanted to save the run. Unfortunately, Garmin says that the activity is unvalid. I did some research and found that there are Fit File Repair Tools. I tried to use them but I have no idea how to exactly do it. Could someone help me with the file? I would be really happy.

My goal pace is 10 km in 50 minutes.

The coach app says to aim easy pace for 40 to 80 seconds slower than goal pace, that is 5.40 to 6.20 min/km. But that puts my heart rate close to my threshold level. I have lactate threshold of 165 (max puls 182, resting 57 - I am a 49 year old M).

If I try to run in zone 2 the pace is around 6.40, but my zone 2 (LTHR based) is 141-156, so this is hardly low aerobic exercise, and my watch also tells me that I get no "low aerobic" exercise if I follow this (which is what I have been doing). I have also tried running at 75-85% LTHR (around pulse 130-140) as recommended in low heart rate running training, but that puts my pace up around 7.00 and I wonder if that is not too slow (it does not feel like exercise, really, I don't break a sweat or change my breathing pattern). What level to aim for?

Without wearing my garmin heartbeat shows up

I have a question?

Curious if it made much improvement?

My watch is over 5 years old. I feel like I'm charging it more often, every few days. Pulse Ox is off as I'm aware that's a drain.

So wondering about changing the battery. At 5 years, I'd be surprised if it isn't degraded.

And presumably replacement batteries have come a long way in 5 years. Some are advertising way higher mAH values, although appreciate with copies this could be garbage.

Interestingly, I just charged to 100%, and ran a GPS walk test off my wrist. Did 7 hours with 67% remaining, which actually seems pretty good. So maybe it's software rather than physical battery degredation.

Any thoughts?

Forerunner beyond repair

My Garmin running watch broke down, suddenly stoped and Garmin told me they don’t support or repair the device.
