My garmin 945 is not recording distance accurately when open water swimming. When comparing to a friends 935 the distance is completely off. It doesn’t track when I swim back on myself. Any advice?

Probably not a Connect Mobile iOS issue. Moving thread to Forerunner 945 forum.
Mine is the same what do u do
As noted read this thread...forums.garmin.com/.../open-water-swimming
I have the same problem since the 935 version. These watches don't track accurately open water sessions, period! I thought the problem was with my 935 so I bought a 945 and today I did a session and it tracked 20% less distance (I swim in a fixed buoys 200m course). I thought I might be crazy and went for a swim with my 920 and it tracked perfectly the same course. So I have just bought a USD 500 + watch and thankfully I didn't sell my old 920! But I am really pissed to buy a new watch and need to use the old one, what's the point? I tried GPS only, GPS + Glonass, Ultratrac, GPS + praying etc and nothing works. I do Ironman, I expect to track my sessions accurately and am thinking about selling all this and getting another brand! Have been a loyal Garmin user since the first forerunner... Garmin, can u help me ?
Cheers
Peter
It's an old sad story...
Open Water Swim Question. - fēnix 7 series - Wearables - Garmin Forums
It happens with almost every Garmin devices, i have reported many times to beta teams but seems that simply they don't care about it... . I have to use a Suunto 9 for my open water swim or use distance correction with Strava.
That's just terrible. I use a previous version of the forerunner for the swim. I did a Triathlon a couple of weeks ago that I had to wear the 920 in one wrist for the swim and the 935 for the rest of the race, that's basically ridiculous!
I have just spoken to Garmin's support and they suggested me changing some settings:
1) check the version of the GPS on the 945 (5.40)
2) Change the frequency of the data sent during open water swimming:
Go to settings> System > data recording
Change from "Smart" to "Every second".
Don't if u tried this, just in case you haven't. I will do some ocean swim tomorrow and let you know if it worked. Let's see....
