Notes:

  • For any issues that you encounter please fill out the form included in the download and attach it to an email to [email protected]. Please note that you may not get a response to the email unless we need more information on the issue you report.
  • Although this software is believed to be reliable, it has not yet been released for production and should be used at your own risk.

Changes made from version 4.00 to 4.06:

  • Add new Virtual Run activity profile. This enables broadcast of speed and heart rate information to virtual running applications such as Zwift.
  • Add Widget Glances, a new way to view widget information. The option to enable is found in the Widgets menu.
  • Add Low Heart Rate to the Abnormal Heart Rate Alert feature.
  • Various improvements for battery performance.
  • Fix an issue that was causing loss of treadmill calibration data. For best results, perform an outdoor run before your first treadmill activity.
  • Improvements to breathworks
  • Miscellaneous bug fixes and improvements.

Installation Instructions

  1. Connect your Forerunner 945 to your computer using the USB cable.
  2. Download and unzip Forerunner945_406Beta.zip. Place the GUPDATE.GCD file in the \GARMIN folder of your device's internal storage drive.
  3. Disconnect your device from the computer, approve the update on the watch, and wait for the update to finish.
  4. If you would like to revert to the last public release software, place the GUPDATE-400.GCD file in the \GARMIN folder. Rename GUPDATE-400.GCD to GUPDATE.GCD before disconnecting your device. NOTE: If you revert to an older version of software, all of your settings will be reset to defaults.
  • This update is amazing !
especially the new virtual run feature because I have a myrun treadmill and until now I had to choose between broadcasting to my watch or zwift (bluetooth only) and now I can broadcast to my watch which boadcasts it to zwift. SO happy !

  • Is the Komoot issue (endless downloading of tours) fixed with this update?

  • What is the general consensus so far from users who's suffered high battery usage since 3.90 / 4.00? I don't do betas but I am interested to hear other's feedback on the battery with the added features and no BT update. Thanks.

  • Too early to say but so far I've lost only 1.9% in 13 hours of "smartwatch" use (no workouts). I've hard reset it after a full charge. I'll be out soon for a short run so we'll see.

  • Thanks Aurelie. You said you were on the verge of selling the watch if the next update don't improve the battery situation. So your feedback is very positive. Please keep us posted on your further findings after some activities.

  • Yes I said that. So far it's very encouraging... I'll keep you posted. Cheers

  • Thank you. Have a nice enjoyable run!

  • So, here we go! I've done a Recovery Run of 38m39s in Z2 using a 6-field data screen all the time and a Polar H10. No Phone. Brightness 5%. I've lost 3.5%. It's an improvement. I'm in that first 10% (90-100%) which as we know is not very telling (my watch is at 94.5% now, 14h33m since full charge). All in all I'm quite happy so far...

Still no bugs or issues. I was able to save the activity and I can see it in GCW. GPS Fix was quick enough given the horrible weather we have in London Today. Can't complain.

    Well done Garmin.

  • Thanks for the review!  Sounds very promising.  I'd love to understand more about Zwift (I have no idea what that is) and how the bluetooth transmission of speed/etc. are beneficial.  Does it let my gym treadmill have a two way conversation with the watch, for example?  I'm not asking you specifically, more of a general question.   Thanks Aurelie for the review, and others for their impressions!
