I think I've solved my problem and it's incredibly simple. This morning after starting my Hike in the usual manner I Shared it with my wife. This produced the URL of the Live Track. Then I texted the same URL to myself. The Live Track immediately appeared on the screen of my phone!

Note that this is not quite the same as using the normal Garmin Connect app to send the Live Track to a preselected subset of my phone Contacts via email which I've used for years.

I also learned that there is a Garmin Connect App for my Android phone. Among other things, allows me to see all of my recent Activities and then lets me see the Live Track for any of them, including the one in progress.

I imagine many on this Forum already know all of this, but for me it's a bright new day!

For years I was able to see my Live Track on a map on my cell phone merely by including myself as a recipient. Then while in the field, hiking or walking, I'd receive an email from Garmin. The track on the map showing streams, ponds, etc. would stay on the screen until I ended the hike.

Unfortunately, that no longer works. All that's changed in that I got a new Samsung Galaxy S25 Fe Android phone, replacing the S23 phone.

How can I get back to "the way it used to be?"

Any help greatly appreciated.

BTW, I received a new Garmin Forerunner 165 as a gift. I tried it, but unfortunately I have to say it's not for me. I just hate tapping on that tiny watch face trying to get it to do what I want, and being asked for my "pin" at every juncture. So, it's going on eBay :-)

I'm still struggling with this problem. I am able to my Live Track while hiking/walking sometimes. For example, I had walked a mile or so without seeing LT. A bit frustrated, I Stopped the walk in the normal manner, then started it again. And suddenly I saw LT on the map! What's the story here? What am I missing?

In my struggles I've tried using Share with my wife and myself instead of relying on the "normal" method of using recipients preselected from my phone Contacts list. I've had better luck with the Share method. I do realize that when Share is used the recipient see my email address rather than Garmin. That's stands to reason because with the Normal method the position is transmitted to the phone via Bluetooth, and the phone then relays it to a Garmin server which then relays it to the recipient. Have I got this right?

All help will be greatly appreciated.

From what I understand, there isn’t much that can be done. A DIY fix wouldn't even come close to the water-resistance levels of a new watch.

The main issue is that by doing nothing, the compromised seal could eventually allow water to reach the internal components, which would completely destroy the watch. This is a real problem for me since I swim from time to time.

Anyway, this is a very big disappointment from Garmin. I will also look for a different manufacturer.

Hey, I have bought 2 handed forerunner 745 a few months ago and a strange line that seems like an air between the screen and the screen saver had started to appear on the side of the watch. Ive tried to remove this but couldnt (maybe there is no screen saver and the problem is on the screen).

No solution suggested unfortunately, although Support have offered to swap it for a new discounted 265.

Although I think the Support offer is fair for an out of warranty product, I'm not sure if I want another expensive Garmin if they have built in obsolescence like this after 3 years. I might just keep the 745 and hope this is mostly a cosmetic issue I can ignore, and then try a different manufacturer when it finally dies.

If you check the 945 forum you will see lots ofsimilar problems reported. One brave owner even provided instructions on how to replace your entire screen, which I would definitely not trust myself to do

Still puzzled by what's going on. Today I didn't use Sharing, instead relying on naming myself as a Recipient preselected from Phone Contacts. My wife texted me saying she could see my Live Track. However, I couldn't see my Live Track while I proceeded with my walk. When I got home, I could see it.

Any idea what's causing this?

For years while my 735 xt and Samsung Galaxy 23 the activity (always Hiking) was available for viewing for quite a long time. @4 hours as I recall. I now have a new Galaxy S25 FE and the activity can only be viewed during the activity.

How can I reset it?

The aame thing has happened to my 745. I have seen 945 owners complaining of a similar problem which they attributed to a manufacturing defect that caused the bonding under the screen to fail. I have reached out to Garmin Support to see if there are any fixes available. Not impressed that a very expensive 3 year old watch that hasn’t been abused should fail in this way.

This was my hike this morning. I went through the usual tasks of starting Live Tack in Garmin Connect the Clicking Hike on the phone. I then clicked on the Share icon on the phone and sent it a few family members and a hiking buddy. This was easy since they were all in my phone Contacts. I also added myself. I could immediately see my track on a map. Here's a link to it https://gar.mn/XaQX6N36pY . While I'm mildly elated, I still want to get back to the point where my LiveTrack gets sent to recipients preselected from the Contacts on my phone... i.e., without doing the Share mechanism.

Needless to say, I'm feeling pretty good about this since I am using my old Garmin 735XT watch that I was about to cast out as broken.

BTW, this watch was given to be about 10-11 years ago by a hiking buddy who couldn't figure out how to use it. He bought an Apple watch.

Of possible interest to you is that I've owned lots of hiking tracking devices over the year. My first was a FindMeSPOT I used when I was doing a lot or challenging hikes & backpacking in the western National Parks... Yosemite, Grand Canion etc. Later I dumped the FindMeSPOT 'cuz it cost over $100 a year for the service contract. My First Garmin was one of those big things... about the size of a small camera. No phone involved. At some point in that era, Garmin switched the OS sofware. I'll say they initially used software from a major player.. Microsoft perhaps. Then they programmed their own. It was a disaster! It kept crashing and rebooting etc. It came to be known as a Big Golden Bugbox.. itwas huge, expensive, and full of bugs.

Also, since it performed pretty well on my 2 1/2 mile walk this morning. I'd say it was indeed "connected." When I say "pretty well" I mean I could see my track on my phone and on my Windows desktop when I got home. My wife also saw it. Only 2 things were disappointing. One, I wasn't able to see mile Live Track while walking, In the good old days I could see it on a map. Also, if there were landscape features like ponds, they would show also.

Another shortcoming is I used to be able to have the Live Track sent to participants preselected from phone Contacts. Now if I really want someone to watch my Live Track I have to use the Share feature.

Which device is paired with the Garmin Connect app on your phone? That will determine where the LiveTrack settings are located.

In the app go to More > Garmin Devices. Send a screenshot of what you see if possible.

I am referring to Garmin Connect app on my cellphone. I don't recall even knowing there was Garmin Connect Mobile.

Regarding "More > Live Track > Sharing Settings", I don't see that on my phone. There is a Settings "gear" icon. Clicking on that has several choices, none of which are Livetrack> Sharing.

Regarding my Forerunner 165, it was a gift. I tried to use it but gave up. First, I'm a "fat finger" guy making the "touch screen" user interface a challenge. On top of that, virtually every touch brings up a request for the 4-digit pin code. And on top of that, sometimes one cannot simply touch 4 digits in the wanted order. Instead, each touch simply moves to the adjacent position in the grid. So if the PIN is 91 and the current position is the wanted digit is 9 you have to click 8 times to get there! I don't know what causes this obtuse to arise, but it causes me to just give up and start my hike! On top of these annoyances, 95 % of the functionality of the device is meaningless to an old grandpa like me who has never been a bicycle racer, competitive swimmer, or triathlon competitor. So, I'm either going to give it back to my son-in-law or sell it on eBay.

My apologies. By Garmin Connect Mobile, I’m referring to the app version used on a mobile device, such as an iPhone, Android phone, or tablet, to distinguish it from the web version, known as Garmin Connect Web.

After rereading your post, I noticed it’s about the 735XT, not the Forerunner 745 mentioned in the forum title. Since the 735XT doesn’t include Safety & Tracking features, that option won’t appear in the app. I also saw in another post that you now have a Forerunner 165. If it’s paired properly with the Connect app, Safety & Tracking should be visible. The Forerunner 165 supports these features, so the menu should show up as soon as it’s paired and fully set up.

If that menu isn’t there, you can also check under More > Live Track > Sharing Settings. That's where it exists while I have my Forerunner 920XT paired with my android tablet.

Thanks, but this doesn't work for me. First problem is on my phone I see Garmin Connect, not Garmin Connect Mobile. If I go ahead with Garmin Connect More, I don't see Safety & Tracking.

In Garmin Connect Mobile, go to More > Safety & Tracking > LiveTrack > Sharing Settings, then toggle on Extend Session Visibility.

Load Focus not taking cycling activities into account?

Good day,

I do running and cycling activities, I have always loaded activities the same way to Garmin connect and in my Load Focus they where active and showing my fitness levels correctly. For the last 3 weeks only the running activities are showing, meaning my Load focus are giving incorrect fitness information as it is not taking the cycling into account. The Cycling shows on the app with all needed power and HR reading as needed? Anyone else experiencing this issue and how can it be resolved to go back to normal?

Problem with GPS and recording runs

Hi,

I posted about this 2 years ago but the problem is still happening : at some point in my run, my Forerunner 745 stop record the distance so i just see my average on-run pace going down and down while my actual pace is still the same and it just results in completely false stats at the end of the run : it records the right run time but with a false distance,

How to correct this ? I've already reset my watch and still the problem keeps happening, should i go for repairs ? Thanks
