Help Recovering Invalid Activity

Hey there, could you explain how you were able to get your invalid activity to your computer? My activity from today is on my watch but when I sync is doesn't go to the computer.

How Do I Manually Upload an Activity I Recorded to Garmin Connect?

• Connect your Garmin device to your computer with the Garmin USB cable
• Open the drive associated with your device.

• Look for your FIT file by date under the \GARMIN\ACTIVITY folder

• Drag and drop the file onto the Garmin Connect Import Data page

• Click Import Data

If you get any message other than Import Complete, then there is a problem with the file being corrupt. Attach it to this thread. We can take a look to see if it is repairable.

• Zip the file, then in a reply post Insert >> Image/video/file >> click Upload >> browse for file >> OK.
• Or upload the fit file to a file sharing service, such as OneDrive, Google Drive, Dropbox, etc., make the file public, then paste a link to the file in your post.

Great! I found my file and am attempting to upload it, but it just hangs when I click Import Data. I am a CS major so I took a peek into the file to see if I could develop an understanding of the issue, but WOW that's some foreign text!

Some fit files, like this one, can be fixed by FIT File Tools, using the section remover without any adjustments. The result can then be uploaded to Garmin Connect Web using the Import Data page. I tested your file, so this works. Then change the activity type from "Other" to "Cycling."

Other fit files sometimes require more extensive repairs. Tools such as Fit File Repair Tool or a binary file editor, such as HEX Editor Nero, might be needed. There's also an online FIT File Viewer.

This is probably not the right way to do this - apologies in advance. I am running and I have a vivoactive3 watch but I had the exact same problem to Carl above @5177634. I tried the solution from @seilogramp (the FIT File Viewer) which seemed to recover the file and I was able to upload it in Garmin Connect.

The problem now is I cannot change the activity to Running. I have every other sport in the world but not running. Any ideas?

From Garmin Connect Web, open that activity, click the dropdown by "OTHER" then select "Running," which should be the first option.

Thank you for your prompt response. The file is buggered I'm afraid.

• First of all in the list of activities (https://connect.garmin.com/modern/activities) I cannot change the activity type to Running as running is not there in the list
• and then the particular activity itself (https://connect.garmin.com/modern/activity/<activity_id>) won't load for me - I have a spinning circle and I cannot see the run and I cannot edit it.

Same deal on the watch itself (invalid file) and the phone in the Garmin App (I can edit the activity but for whatever the reason I cannot change the type).

This happened when I clipped a few seconds off the activity using the online tool. I tried it again but had the same problem. :S
