How does the auto max heart rate detected is calculated?

Hi,

I just want to see if I need to manual calculate my max heart rate as max heart rate should in theory decrease as we age. As a result, I want to confirm that:
1) Auto detect of max HR is based on a recent time period (last two months - 6 months) and not based on my the max HR of my last couple years' max HR.
2) Assuming 1 is correct with a short time period; does the algorithm take average of all the max of all my run or it only take the absolute max as some might have spiked noise data. Or it cleans up per exercise on noise and take the max of all exercise in the period?

Regards,
Brilly
