Hi everyone,
I bought my FR645M about a month ago, and immediately tested the functionality for which I acquired it: linked it to my Spotify Premium account and downloaded some playlists to be able to run without having to bring my phone. Everything worked [almost] perfectly until yesterday ...
… when the watch stopped detecting my home wifi network. Here are the options I have exhausted:
- I thought it was a router problem and rebooted it, nothing.
- Tried to connect it to my phone's hotspot, nothing.
- Turned the watch off and on, nothing.
- Reset settings to default (keeping data), nothing.
- Clear data and reset settings, nothing.
- Connect it to Garmin Express for Mac OS and configure the network from there (it doesn't detect it automatically nor manually), nothing.
If I were to assume, I would say that there is a 70% -80% chance that this is a software issue, given that the wifi worked almost perfectly for a month, but I would not completely rule out that something physical broke inside and caused the problem. I'm not 100% sure if the issue started BEFORE or AFTER the 7.00 Firmware update (I had automatic updates activated).
The MAIN and ONLY reason I bought this device was to listen to music while I run without having to carry my phone, as I have been doing for the last 10 years. I cannot understand how a company this big creates a product whose main attraction stops working after a month of use in a completely new +US$300 unit. This is my first experience with Garmin, and so far it has been very VERY disappointing.
The worst of all is that I did not find official customer service in my country (Dominican Republic), so in case I apply for a replacement, I will have to spend a significant amount of money on shipping. The company just announced that its watches now supports Spotify without the need of a smartphone around (at the moment only in the LTE versions, but I suppose it will soon be available totally offline). If Garmin does not solve this problem, my passage through its ecosystem will definitely be very very short (I was already thinking about upgrading to the FR945 or some Fenix).
Some pictures:
"No wifi networks found" on the watch (I'm typing this entry on mi laptop connected to my home wifi network):
Garmin Express on my laptop: "No networks found. The device hasn't detected any network."
Sad and angry.
