Will polar H7 work for lactate threshold?

Does anyone know if the polar H7 would be expected to work for measuring lactate threshold? The manual seems to suggest it needs to be a Garmin chest HRM but reading around it seems others have had some success with 3rd party straps.

I don't have a result yet - but perhaps I'm not trying hard enough!

To confirm general HRV functionality with H7 I've tried it with the 3 minute HRV stress test - and it does seem to give a reading but more often than not I get a reading of 1 (no stress) whenever my heart rate is low. I'm not sure if that's normal for me or a sign that HRV doesn't work very well between H7 & 645M.
