Activity Data getting Lost or Corrupted or Missing

I am having trouble syncing recorded activities from my Garmin Forerunner 645 Music consistently. On an average i have seen it works 1 in 4 times. Several times the recorded activity from the watch itself gets disappeared. I am terribly unhappy with the performance of such a mediocre product, i have tried syncing using Garmin Express on my laptop too, it generally fails with an error regarding an unsupported file. I have to manually look for the file and delete it else the sync will never go through. On my mobile, i have tried removing my watch and re-adding it, but it doesn't help. I recorded an activity this afternoon - A run for 8km which recorded fine, but after i saved the activity, i could not longer access the details of the Run. The watch still showed my last activity as the 8km run, but when i tried to access more details it would simply come out to the main screen. Syncing it with Garmin Connect or Garmin Express did not help either. I connected it through USB to my computer and tried to see if an activity file existed but there wasn't any file within the activity folder. The surprising thing is the watchface got reset to the default watchface after finishing the run. It seems sometimes the activity file gets corrupted and sometimes the activity doesn't record at all. I am at the latest firmware, have tried master reset, latest Garmin Express Version and Garmin Connect versions installed. Has anyone faced this problem?

• With my 235 , a few times after updating my watch face it would refuse to accept config changes and I needed to do a reset to factory and reconfigure and then things would be fine. If you try a full reset and you still get this, definitely contact support , I think your watch needs to be returned.
• Why not just pair it with Garmin connect mobile. I always found Garmin express to be a bit flakey.
• Ever get an answer to this?  Just experienced this for the first time today.  Had the watch about 4 weeks.  Activity shows up in history but no details for it.  Doesn’t upload to GC.  Got GE and tried to upload the .fit file directly from the watch to GC and got an error message about unsupported file.  Tried to upload the .fit to Strava instead and my 6 mile run showed up as a 1 mile run with no heart rate data.  Subsequently, the generic Garmin watch face now shows my weekly mileage as 0.0, even though it is 27.  Pretty frustrating.  My iPhone with strava app was more accurate and had less issues...

hi,

you can try and do the repair by yourself

• run your fit file through Fit File Tools's section remover (without any removing)
• when this fails, give a yell back here Slight smile

happy & safe sporting

• Still only shows up as a 1 miles run on the fit file tool’s section remover.

99% of the repairs done with Fit File Tools are correct Slight frown

want us to verify, zip the fit file from the device and drag & drop the zip file on your post

• I don’t care so much about this individual run’s data.  My true concern is the watch’s ability to track and save an activity generally.  I shouldn’t have to do all of this just to get a run out of a GPS watch.

I’ve completely reset the watch to factory settings and wiped all the data.  Re-synched with GC and now the watch face shows my accurate weekly mileage (without today’s run).  The history is all accurate but there is no run data from today at all anymore, not even in Activities.  I’m going to assume there was an issue with the gps tracking and saving of this particular run and .fit file, for whatever reason, and see if things work correctly again moving forward.
