Is GTC Balance built in for Forerunner 255 or do I need another device?

I am trying to view my GTC balance during/after my runs, but it just shows as --:--. I chatted with a Garmin rep, who found some info that I might need to have another accessory, but I found the information unclear. So asking here, should my 255 watch be able to display the GTC balance stat on its own?

GCT is on with the last update, L/R balance not, that need a chest strap like garmin hrm pro/pro plus etc

The Garmin RD-Pod also works for the Left/Right ground contact time balance. In the 255 manual under Running Dynamics it explains what metrics you can get from the watch by itself.
