Strange battery issue

I have a fr245 for 5 years and bought a 2nd hand music for my son half a year ago. Both worked without any issue until 2 weeks ago, and we charge them about every 5 days.

My son's fr245m however started to loose battery very fast in the past 2 weeks. It sometimes doesn't even hold a full day. Yesterday afternoon we left home with 97% and today at noon it already turned itself off and we didn't do any activities.

I was trying to think what could've changed in the past 2 weeks. No new all installed, no new firmware. No change in usage, except one thing: he's been to the pool for the first time since he got the (2nd hand) watch. So I am thinking, that maybe the water somehow causes this? It luckily doesn't show any fogging so I don't think that's the issue, but also can't point at anything else.

Ah, and because it looses battery so fast now it reached 0 a few times in the past 2 weeks, so it even "self" restarted.

I tried to compare the 2 watches to see if there's any sign that the 2nd hand watch maybe had it's battery replaced, but I can't be sure. There's no definite sign, but there is some more "ware" than on the watch I own for 5 years. It could be that it was opened and not sealed perfectly.

Is there anything I can do to improve the battery life? I mean I expect it to degrade (I even took it into consideration when I bought 2nd hand) but I'd think it's a slow linear process and not jumping from 5 days to 1/2 day in a week.

After long press on the light button and a proper restart it seems to be working now for more than a week now.

My FR55's battery degraded very quickly after I tried a full discharge cycle. The watch went dark, but I turned it on again and discharged it again. After that, the battery lost capacity in literally a week. The cause of the battery degradation in your case probably doesn't matter—you'll need to replace it.

Hey! Please check out this article to learn more about our Recovery Time feature and why the number is growing.

Normally, to view the Recovery Time metric in the Garmin Connect app you would look within the Training Readiness tile. Since your Forerunner is not compatible with this feature you would only be able to view Recovery Time on the watch.

Can I find that data stored on my connect.Garmin or on my HRM?

Maybe it's sitting in front of my nose, but this is the first time I want to check what my Garmin is telling me my "Recovery" time should be. I had two consecutive day/runs, Day 3 thought just do a light cycle.

open water swim

I would like to measure distance on open water swim but the 245 does not have an open water swim widget. I have tried to use the walk feature while swimming and it does track my water route but the distance and speed seem way off. It seems weird that the Garmin connect IQ store has a professional open water swim app which can be downloaded for a fee. This should be included with the Garmin watch. I am a long time Garmin costumer with my second Garmin watch over 15 years, a Garmin Edge and four Garmin Inreaches. You would think Garmin could do a better job supporting their users.

The 245 does not support open water swimming, unlike the 745, for example, which Garmin honestly states in their specifications and takes into account in the price.

Then search Google to understand what's the difference. Maybe you want the watch to be the primary training device as well

both my devices are listed as primary which is giving some really confused performance data. How do I fix this? My forerunner should be primary as I do more activities with this device and only record bike rides now and then on the Edge.

In the Garmin Connect app go to the top right corner device, chose your device, User Profile, Heart rate zones...

You have a general zone profile and you can have one for running, cycling

I would like to be able to set a min HR and Max HR on my 245 Forerunner music. So that I can run within this band for long distance running. I used to be able to do this on my Polar watch, which I enjoyed. It beeped when I dropped below my set min HR and beeped when I went above my set max HR?

Indoor? Do you have 4 satellites in your stadium? Or how do you expect the watch to see the satellites from a Faraday cage?

Whenever I try to save location it says the GPS signal is stronger outside, away from trees and tall buildings. When I go outside, I get the same message.

GPS is set to GPS+GLONASS

In Settings/ System I see that the GPS version is 6.6 and the CPE is set to current.

Just the past couple weeks the GPS has not been accurate for the Indoor Track. The pace is bouncing all over the place from 8;15 to 14:10 to 10:35. Ran 7 miles today (measured on the track) and the Garmin shows 8.55 mi. Very frustrating!

When creating a pacepro strategy for a custom distance in Garmin Connect, the app returns to the select a distance screen and doesn't let me go any further.

Has anyone else experienced this issue, my wife is also having the same problem.

Using a predefined distance works okay.

Using the web allows me to create the custom strategy and sync with Connect, but I cant open it in Connect.

Forerunner 245 Music: BT Cutting Out During Activity

It appears my problem is not a new one...

My music from Spotify plays well normally on my Forerunner 245 Music thru headphones (JBL Go Air Sport+), but starts glitching/cutting out when I try to use GPS to track an activity. I've tried pausing/playing, using different headphones/speakers, forgetting/re-pairing headphones, system update, and a full reset of the watch. At this point, there's no way I'm paying over $100 for a refurbished one just to have the same issue.

The music capability is the main reason why I wanted a Music model... what's the point if it doesn't work while you're running?!

Exact same issue- I have the same headphones, and got the 165 Music, and music cutting out after 10 mins. I've emailed garmin, they asked me to send a video of the issue (not a whole lot I can show in the video!) and they said they will look into it...

I've tested using a pair of decent beats headphones I have and the music seems to be working fine, and judging by other posts it seems the issue is with cheap headphones. The issue is I don't want to buy new sports headphones in the hope that they work with no guarantee...

There are certain pace and distance limitations when using PacePro, so I'd like to confirm that your selected values fall within the accepted range. Plans are compatible with a pace goal of 4-20 minutes per mile and max activity distance of 150 miles, or 2:28-12:25 minutes per kilometer and max activity distance of 241 kilometers.
