235 Average Pace Calculation?

My 235 recorded a 5.08mi run with a total time of 42:00. It calculated an average pace of 8:16/mi for the run. If you do the math you will find that a 5 mile run in 42:00 is a 8:24/mi pace. Has anyone had similar pace calculation issues with their 235 or can shed light on the math Garmin is using? I am perplexed. TY.

I did the math, and what I got is exactly 8:15.6. If you round the seconds you get 8:16. So I think your 235 is right, and you made a mistake somewhere.

TY for your reply, however, I cannot agree. Simply, 42.00/5=8.4. .4 x 60 = 24. Hence 8:00 + .24 = 8.24. You suggest 8:16 is correct. 16 seconds x 5 miles = 80 seconds. 80 seconds plus 8:00 would total a time of only 41:20. Garmin is miscalculating the pace. 8:24 is correct.

But that's pace for only 5mi. Add also that 0.08mi, then pace will be a bit faster.

If you run exactly 5mi, then edit distance on activity's page.

Why do you divide by 5 if your garmin says it's 5.08? It makes all the difference.
