Charging watch has caused date/sync problems

I charged my watch this morning (didn't switch it off) and when I unplugged it, it was showing the date as 26th - presumably September, except that was six days ago. How do I change the date? The watch face also reverted to the factory default when I had previously been using a watch face from the Garmin Connect IQ app...

I've also synced the watch and it's showing no data on my phone now since Friday 20th September even though I wear it every day. I haven't really dug into the uses of the watch as I've not had it long, but it definitely seems like this is a defect?
