The ride feel, road surface simulation, and the new Tacx Alpine make it one of the most realistic indoor cycling systems available.

However, there is one important part of real cycling that is still missing: braking.

Today, when descending at 60–80 km/h in Tacx Training or other applications, there is no way to slow down intentionally. The trainer keeps simulating coasting, and I simply have to wait until the virtual speed decreases by itself.

In real cycling, this feels unnatural.

Before every corner or technical section I would normally:

stop pedaling,

gently apply the brakes,

enter the corner at a comfortable speed,

accelerate again after the turn.

This is a natural part of riding, but it is impossible to reproduce on a smart trainer today.

My suggestion

I would love to see Garmin introduce a Tacx Brake accessory.

For example:

a small ANT+ or Bluetooth controller mounted on the handlebars,

one or two brake levers,

or compact sensors attached to the existing brake levers.

When the rider squeezes the brake, the trainer would immediately reduce the virtual speed and simulate realistic deceleration.

The hardware already exists inside the NEO. The electromagnetic brake is capable of producing very precise braking forces. What is missing is simply a way for the rider to control it.

Future possibilities

If Garmin ever decides to expand the ecosystem further, a dedicated brake accessory could become another major step toward full riding simulation, alongside Tacx Alpine and Road Feel.

Eventually, a complete simulation could include:

realistic climbing,

road surface simulation,

controlled coasting,

rider-controlled braking,

and realistic corner entry speeds.

This would make the Tacx platform even more immersive for riders who use indoor training to simulate real outdoor cycling rather than just perform structured workouts.

I believe many cyclists would appreciate having control over their speed instead of only relying on automatic coasting.

Thank you for considering this idea.

RE: Feature Request: Add Braking Support to the Tacx NEO Ecosystem

You can submit idea to Garmin here https://www.garmin.com/forms/ideas/

RE: Is it the Neo 3M, Alpine or Tacx Window APP?

Problem resolved.
Over the last couple of months something weird has started to happen. I appear to have a Ghost profile. Whilst riding along the app seems to get confused and starts behaving erratically. For example App will show me cycling downhill +9% but the speed will be 5mph with the fly wheel spinning and the Alpine rising to simulate an uphill climb. If I turn the app off, the 3M and Alpine is still riding a course

I have checked to ensure that the Firmware for both the 3M and Alpine is at the latest version (Which it is) and originally I suspected that the issue related to saved rides not syncing with the app. However with the HDD where the saved drives are located has been removed, however the issue is still occurring.

To date this has happened on the following rides:

Stage 2 Fausto

Stage 1 Finestre

Stage 1 Monastery Tour

Stage 2 Monastery Tour

Team SD Worx Protime - Port Sorrell

Languedoc Vineyards - Raid Pyrenees - Stage 23

Is anyone else having the same issues.

I could understand if these issues were happening on a 3rd party app, however I don't expect this to happen on Tacx own products.

Note: I have also tried to use the Tacx Smart Network Adapter, but apparently this is not compatible with the Alpine.

Has anyone else experienced this issues? Please advise.

Recommendation

I am recommending an additional option. I can set a favorite ride, but when filtering for a new ride the results don't show what I've already ridden or how many times I have ridden that ride. Recommend, the the favorite ride upper right blue banner with the heart is updated, once ridden. The heart can can change colors once ridden, and a number can be added to show how many times a ride has been ridden. Something similar can be done for non-favorite rides. This reduces the need to go back into my activities to see if this is a new ride or one done before. Thanks for considering.

RE: Recommendation

Thanks.
Additionally, must add, I only switch to have the Neo white LED selected once I’ve loaded the chosen rote on Rouvy and of 23/12/2025 I’ve found no other option to ensure the Alpine functions as expected.

RE: Neo 3M virtual shifting in Tacx App

I completely agree; the FAQ you mentioned doesn't clearly state whether installing Zwift Cog and Click would work with the Tacx Training app.

RE: Neo 3M virtual shifting in Tacx App

Yep same here. Those FAQ don't describe what we want.

Also it looks like the NEO Smart Bike has Virtual Gears in the Tacx App. Why cant such a funcionality be enabled for the other smarttrainer, which in theory can do virtual shifting?

RE: Neo 3M virtual shifting in Tacx App

Of course, I found such FAQ entry. But it does not describe a solution to the problem I stated.

Virtual shifting can be used with my Zwift App, what I'm doing today.

But I wanted to use it in the Garmin App. I cannot believe Garmin does not have plans to support it in Garmin's own app, but only in the one of Zwift and Rouvy.

RE: Neo 3M virtual shifting in Tacx App

Please check out this article: Top FAQs About Virtual Shifting on Tacx Trainers

Tacx alpine doesn't work with rouvy? When I connect my Tacx m3 to Rouvy, I can't connect Tacx alpine separately.
