Wonky Auto Resume on treadmill while walking

I started walking indoors due to the cold weather and noticed my mileage was about half of what the treadmill shows. I set a custom stride length and still no improvement in the distance measured.

I turned on auto resume as a lark and now see that the unit keeps auto pausing every few seconds and then resuming a few seconds later. This explains why my distance is way off.

I am fully swinging my arms in a the same motion that I use when outdoor walking. Is there any solution for this issue? I find it bizarre that even though my arms are in constant motion it is auto pausing the unit when in indoor walking mode.

I've had similar issues with indoor activities (non GPS). I've switched off auto-pause to get better readings.

I have the same bad readings with autopause turned on and turned off. I assume the the device is determining I am not moving and not recording the steps.

I tried this out on an elliptical trainer this morning. Auto pause switched off. Garmin says I did 3.86 km on the machine, while machine read 3.91km. I assume the slight difference is due to my "stride" on elliptical machine being different from my normal walking stride.

How do I (my girlfriend) turn of autopaus?

I tried to help her talking to her over phone but my Garmin Fenix 3hr doesnt have same interface as a Venu.
