Vivosmart 3 - Device Shows Stats But No Activity File

Didn't see a section for Vivosmart 3 so I'm posting here instead, apologies if there is one and I've overlooked.

The problem I'm having is that the device is showing my steps for today on the display, but when I sync it, the Garmin Connect portal doesn't show any data for today (the sync itself was successful). I decided to use the manual upload function, but when I go to the GARMIN\ACTIVITY folder on the device, there's no .FIT file for today, the last one I can see is also the last one I have data for on the Garmin Connect portal. I'm guessing the portal is not showing anything for today despite the successful sync, precisely because there's no .FIT file on the device for today, the question is why and how come I can see the stats on the device display? Maybe it's just stored in RAM on the device and not written to the storage?

Hope someone has experienced this before and has a clue as to what might be going on as well as a possible solution.

  • Weird... after disconnecting the device, the stats vanished and it went back to 0 steps for the day. I put it on, walked around a bit to add some steps, and now it syncs properly. I still don't see any .FIT file for today, and maybe it's not supposed to be there, maybe it's deleted from the device after a successful sync, but then why didn't the previous session get recorded and why do I have all these old .FIT files then? It's all very confusing. Anyway, seems to be transferring data to the portal at least now.

    Sometimes happens if you somehow have logged in using an alternate Garmin account. Frequently occurs when using a different phone and sign up for a new account instead of existing, or if using Garmin Express, not using the same account as on Garmin Connect Web.

    Did you record the activity correctly? Select activity > Start > Stop > Save. Did you somehow discard the activity instead of save it? Are you using the Auto Start feature?

  • I have only one account, I'm 100% sure of that. I don't start and stop activities manually normally. I use the automatic tracking, yes.

    Unfortunately this is not 100% reliable. Also you might check the minimum thresholds in case your run or walk was not auto starting. However, if it did work for that missing day and somehow got corrupt or deleted, you might be able to see the FIT file using a file recovery tool as mentioned here: how do I get my activity back if I delete it?
