Vivosmart and non-Garmin device simultaneously during workouts?

I just got a Vivosmart 4, I’m using it for my everyday activity tracking, mainly for counting steps. For my runs I’m using a Polar multisports watch and I transfer the activity to Garmin Connect.

Should I wear the Vivosmart during my training sessions (while recording the activity on my other watch)?

When I transfer an activity to Garmin Connect, it doesn’t register any steps from it, so if I want to include the steps taken during my run in the daily step count I would need to wear both  at the same time.

But I assume that if I wear the Vivosmart during an activity it will also track a higher number of burnt calories during that time. The calories burnt is already registered by my other watch and is transfered with the activity to Garmin Connect.

Is it possible to have Vivosmart count the steps but skip the calories when I’m out for a run or any other training activity?
