Can not connect to Garmin Express

I picked up a vivomove HR that is a few years old. I got it set up fine using the android connect app but when I try to add it to the Garmin Express PC app - express can't find it. The battery charge icon is lit on the watch so it is definitely connected to the PC. Any advice? I am sure there are firmware updates needed.
