Out off battery

I purchased a new device today?
The battery was at 0% and no way to turn it on.
I had to put it on charge which makes sense, however will this cause a problem with the battery life?

Depends how long it was shelved with the battery depleted. Try several charge-discharge cycles and see if the battery operates within specs.
