Anche io ho lo stesso problema. Dopo l'aggiornamento al firmware 31.33, è stato rilevato un problema di comunicazione Bluetooth sul Garmin Edge Explore 2, che impedisce all'app Di2 Gear & Battery Viewer di visualizzare correttamente i cambi di marcia del Shimano Di2.
Attendo con ansia una soluzione!

After updating my Edge Explore 2 to 31.33, Connect IQ data fields that read Shimano Di2 gears over Bluetooth stopped working. On 30.23 the same setup worked fine. This is not specific to one app — at least two Di2 data fields in the Connect IQ Store are affected, and one of them now carries a warning in its store description about a Bluetooth problem on 31.33.

Map pop-up zoomed-in before junction not showing if on map screen when navigating

Usual behaviour:
When navigating, regardless of the screen displayed (map screen, elevation or data screens, etc), before a junction, there would be a sound notification and map pop-up with the junction close-up, for easy reading at speed. After passing through the junction, the message would disappear and the previous screen would be displayed. If I used to be on the map, at 120m resolution, it would go back to it.

Currently:
The behaviour above is only applicable when navigating, and other screens (EXCEPT map) is used.
If I'm on the map screen, then I only hear the sound, but the map stays at 120m resolution (insufficient to clearly see which exist from a roundabout I should take or pick the right cycle path when they diverge). I see the arrow instructions at the top of the screen, but again, not very useful, especially if a turn at speed going downhill.

I've disabled/ enabled a few times: the maps loaded (all exclusively from Garmin, via Connect), the auto-zoom option, the turn by turn notification, etc. Cleared temporary files, soft reset (long press to turn off). This behaviour is the same for courses prepared on the fly, on the device and those loaded via third-party platforms (i.e. created in Strava). I'm on the latest firmware (31.33) and I suspect this behaviour started after update (I waited quite a while, just recently updated, and I suspect I didn't notice this right away when the behaviour changed).

Are there any reports of this problem? Is it a known issue which will be fixed? Is it byy design. for a reason that I don't know?
Any fixes?
Will Explore 2 get any further firmware updates? Seems unlikely now, witht the release of Explore 3.
Any tips for actions that people would not intuitively check? (i..e I've added sensors recently, I've set it up with a turbo, etc.)

Later edit: added photo of what I would expect to see (pop-up pre-defined fields as shown -heading, time to point and X close button [ignore the wiggles, photo taken while indoors]); this appears ONLY if I'm NOT on the map screen, but in case I'm the map screen, it remains at the set resolution with the fields I've set for navigation at the bottom, as per second photo)

Same issue here. It's frustrating to have something break and then still be waiting a month to have it fixed.

If you prefer not to participate in the beta program, the fix is also expected to be included in an upcoming public software release for the Edge Explore 2.

Battery level stuck on 100%

Edge 2 (SW 31.33) has recently started locking the battery level on 100%. Had the unit over a year and never encountered before, but happened twice in the last week. A friend with same (but new) unit has the same problem.

This is reportedly a problem withe allowing sleep rather than full powerdown, and a full powerdown apparently restores the battery level function, but not an option while riding. Same problem reported for other devices (eg 840 forum [mention:c114c58f1bbc41e695db9c88038cda0f:46448885d0e64133bbfbf0cd7b0fd6f7] ) .

Estou com o mesmo problema. Meu EE2, não consegue atualizar para a versão mais recente dos mapas (Europa Ocidental).

Removi todos os mapas antigos (Europa Ocidental, Central e Oriental) pelo menu do gerenciador de mapas.

A atualização do mapa falha repetidamente.

"Alterações não aplicadas".

Tentei em computadores diferentes.

Firmware do dispositivo e software Express atualizados.

O que devo fazer?

Hi,

I have a new EE2 and I would like to update the maps because they were quite outdated (from 2021 or so)

I connected the EE2 to my desktop PC and Garmin Express offered my to update the maps.

The update failed and following tips on the internet / AI I removed all old maps (west, central and east europe) with the map manager menue and tried to install the central europe map fresh.

This failed as well with the message "changes could not applied".

My device is on version 31.33.

I tried this also on my laptop but the result is the same.

Any ideas?

I see the change log for 31.33 mentions an updated radar data screen. How can I add this as I can’t find it. I get the normal radar overlays on all screens but can’t find any dedicated radar data screen

Everybody has different ideas of these plugins and seems to use the explore 2 in a different way. I do even a lot of training with this device but have chosen it because I listen to my body, not to a device. So I need routing for long trips. Therefore the cheaper explore and not one of the fancy edge 1040 or 50.

All I missed was to check easily the battery of my bike to avoid it is suddenly empty. The shimano app is here okayish but everything in one place is so much better. To see the many gears (just checking, not changing via the shifters!) is kind of nice but honestly said of very limited use for me.

I even understand if Garmin wants to see here a strict limitation on the functionalities but point is the "how".
Maybe it's only me but I do not like the point that this is coming out of nowhere and leaves us here puzzled if this is just a bug or if it is the intention. It leaves a bad taste.

No, it was the screen itself I couldn’t find not the colour mode. But I think I’ve answered my question myself from a thread I found on a different edge unit. I think the radar data screen is only available if you have the varia 820 whereas I have the 515

I was happy enough with my explorer 2 UNTIL I bought a new bike with ultegra Di2. I don't care what you do and what the world do. I'm just answering because you've being really annoying and a cry baby.

And all of this is COMPLETELY worthless to someone who knew what they were buying the Explore 2 for. It's a GPS navigation device with Garmin deliberately cutting out training features like stamina, recovery etc.

What good is Wi-Fi and advanced metrics if I can't comfortably browse the map while riding.

Furthermore, now you're looking for a sucker to sell a used Explore for €160, even though you can easily buy a new one for around €220 from normal store, not AliExpress.

But keep trying to convince the world how you either made the wrong choice by buying the Explore 2 or now getting the 540.

4878925 With the software update for 31.33, this updated the radar data screen to support the selected Color Mode instead of always displaying in dark mode. If you are unsure where the Color Mode setting is, you would select the main menu icon > System > Display > Color Mode.

In the end with my solution, I will get a proper connection with di2 and ....you won't and carry on crying on this forum .

Your solution to the problem with the Explore 2, which is primarily a navigation computer, that you wanted to share with the world was to switch to the Edge with a smaller, non-touchscreen designed for training?!

I just bought a new 540 in Ali for 200€ free shipping. Was thinking of wahoo but for 200€ nothing comes close de 540. I really need the di2 connection.

I’ve been using Edge computers for eight years(first was Edge 1000), but this situation is really getting on my nerves.

I was lucky enough to get a warning not to install version 31.33 because the Di2 app doesn't work with it. Still my Garmin installed it anyway at some point without me permision.

The only solution was to manually install 30.23. It took a while, including transferring my settings. It solved this issue but after that Explore started acting up and restarts once or twice per ride.

It’s been over two months since that version was released. Despite the known issue, it’s still available; Garmin hasn't said if or when they’ll fix the bug, and I’m left with a worse device than before. I certainly won't be giving Garmin any more of my money. I’ll either buy a used 1040 or switch to Wahoo.

Sorry for tagging you directly, but this thread has had no reply from Garmin for almost a month, and you are the Garmin staff I have seen active on the Edge Explore 2 forum (including the 31.33 release announcement).

Short summary: since 31.33, Connect IQ apps can no longer register the Shimano Di2 Bluetooth service (registerProfile fails with an undocumented status or a "Failed invoking <symbol>" System Error). This is not specific to my app: the other Di2 app developers I was able to reach confirm the same problem in their apps. On 30.23 everything works. On today's ride two Edge Explore 2 units with the same Di2 model rode side by side: the one on 30.23 received gear data for 2 hours without a single error; the one on 31.33 received none. The Connect IQ developer bug report (with logs and a minimal reproduction project) was acknowledged a month ago as CIQQA-4662, but there has been no update since:

Edge Explore 2 FW 31.33: Ble.registerProfile() with a custom 128-bit service UUID crashes the data field with a System Error (regression from FW 30.23)

We understand that a fixed firmware will take time and we will have to wait for it. But in the meantime, could you please push internally for an official rollback option to 30.23 for all Edge Explore 2 owners (a GUPDATE.GSP file plus instructions, or a support procedure)? That way people would not have to suffer with a broken setup and could keep enjoying their devices until the fix is out. Even a short confirmation that the issue is known and being tracked would help a lot.

Loading a course deleted the previous hours training?!?

I was on a training ride this morning (should’ve been following one of my courses but I’d given up on it after a few km as it was relentlessly asking if I wanted to re-route despite clearly showing on-screen that I was on the course). After just over an hour I decided to reload the course as I wanted to use climbpro for the final climb home so I loaded the course, said no to navigating to the start and continued riding as I neared the climb I swiped back to check my power etc and realised it had stopped recording? Strange, but never mind, I pressed start assuming it would start a new file and I could just upload both to trainingpeaks, but no! When I got home I realised it had deleted the previous hour+ of training and just left be with the 15 or so kms of the last climb WTF! Luckily I had my Apple Watch running too so I still have a file for trainingpeaks but surely this cant be the designed behaviour for loading a course? I just want to use the navigation not delete my training file
