My workouts are not being synced to the computer from my calendar. Is there something I'm missing.

New (refurbished) EE2 won't update

Cannot delete maps from my Edge 2

I tried to load a new map for Australia on my device but there is not enough space. So I tried to delete two maps I do not use, using Garmin Express. Go to Manage maps and untick the ones I do not need, then process and accept.

Garmin Express says that the maps are deleted but when I open 'manage maps' again, they are still ticked and are still there

Als at the bottom of the Manage Maps screen I see a bar with the available space on my device.

The black section are the installed maps. The green section ('Other'), I do not understand. What is in it and can I clean it up?

Ride With GPS syncing question

Hi. I have an Explore 2, but this is a more general question about syncing between Ride with GPS and my device. I've connected my Garmin account to my RWGPS account and pin routes so they appear on my device. If I pin a route (mine or someone else's) and the source file is later updated with a route change, will that change appear on the route loaded to my device? I'm assuming the route on my device will update with the next sync, but want to confirm. Thanks.

Slow Map Load and Refresh

I finally got the USA West and East installed on my Explore 2. Now the map load and refresh are extremely slow. I turned the contour lines off, but it is still very slow. Is this because the maps are so large? Is there anything I can do to get it back to a normal speed?

Factory reset doesn't help

USA. 30.23. Been getting the basemap load error, and won't load TopoActive North America East using Garmin Express. Deleted all user data and did a factory reset. No change, still getting the basemap load error and won't load new map. PC has plenty of storage and memory.

Aaarrgghhh.

My Edge Explore 2 doesn't open anymore

My Edge Explore 2 bugs completely : I pushed the power button for 12 sec because the screen froze and restart. It is still loading after 2 days and my Garmin App can't recognise the device for synchronisation and I can't pair the device. Screen stays black with battery half full.

Any advice ?

The Garmin Explore 2, second hand, (USB)connected several times with my Wndows 11 system. After recovering the Garmin (and deleting data) the Edge connected (USB) with the computer aqnd I paired the computer witg the Edge (Garmin Express) Garmin Express could find the computer, but the following connections failed nearly all. I used the USB-cable supplied with the Garmin, (and another cable) the Garmin software is up to date. The system connects with my Android phone. There was a rare succesful connection (after tge first). I tried itb with 2 other computers: The same problem. My USB ports on the computer (I tried several ports) behave normally with other hardware, but there is no sign of recognition with the Garmin nor in Garmin Express nor in Windows Explorer, no USB connection beep. In the rare succesful attempts the computer beeped on connection and on removal of the cable.

Why can't I update the maps on a brand new Edge Explore 2?

First time connecting my new device and oh my, what a wind-up!

Update it says, so I click update... Not enough memory it says, manage maps to create space. I manage maps, unclick the ones I don't want. It goes through the process (unplug and replug in the device?!) and says completed, like its removed the maps. I go back to the update screen and I have the maps I've just removed still ticked and I can't update the western Europe that I want. I try the same thing 4 times. The same every time.

I go onto the device and go into the maps settings and disable the (unclearly named) maps I don't want.

I go back into Garmin Express and still it won't let me update the maps.

Thinking about sending it back tbh. The menus are so un-user-friendly (I've worked in IT for 35 years!). Why do I have 3 profiles including Indoor, when I'll never use the device indoors. (Can't remove it, only rename?).

But if someone can advise how I update the maps, I would be most grateful.

Made a protocol how to finaly upgrade my explore 2 which was still hooked on map software from 2021.22 and refused the updates

Update maps problem with the Garmin Edge Explore 2

The Edge Explore 2 only has 16GB of internal storage. The new 2025.10 map files are cumulatively so large that the device does not have enough temporary space to overwrite the old maps, causing Garmin Express to give an error message halfway through or even tell you that the update was successful, while when you check the maps on your device, you find that they were not updated.

It should also be mentioned that Garmin has changed the naming from 'Cycle Map' to 'TopoActive'. The old maps that are in your newly purchased EE2 date from 2021 and were named, for example, INTL Standard Base Map, Garmin CYCLE Map EU 2021-22 West, Garmin Cycle Map EU 2021-22 East.

Now first check which card files are on your EE2. To do this, go to menu - Activity profiles and then choose Cycling - Navigation - Map - Map information.

Now connect your EE2 to a USB port on your Windows PC. Your EE2 will be installed and now if you click on the symbol of your EE2, you can find it in the Folder This PC – Devices and Drives, and you will see the various folders and files that are on the device.

Look for the following files: gmaprom.img and also if there are several versions such as gmaprom1.img and 2, also all gmaprom.gma and those ending in .unl. Also search for D6285160A.img and D6185160A.gma. You should definitely delete these files, otherwise the update will fail again.

What you should definitely not delete is the gmapbmap.img folder and the D4728160A.img and D4713090A.img folders.

Download Garmin Express for Windows now and install and launch the program. However, first remove your EE2 from the PC. Turn off the EE2 and restart it, so that it cleans up some cache remnants. Now you hang it back on the PC and the device is recognized by the Garmin Express. A green light will turn on and there will also be a "Connected" message.

Now Garmin Express will also see that your device needs map updates. You search for the desired file name, for Europe this is the Topactive Europe 2025.10. Choose to update.

It takes a while now (but not hours as indicated). It will then be notified that the update is ready.

Now remove your EE2 from the PC again and boot the device to check if the maps have been updated. To do this, go to menu - Activity profiles and then choose Cycling - Navigation - Map - Map information. Here you will now find the new maps and they are the following:

TopoActive Europe West 2025.10
Standard Basemap
Garmin DEM Map EU 2023.10

Mission accomplished, but in the meantime the next update is already available, namely the Topactive Europe 2026.11. Pair your EE2 back to the PC and restart Garmin Express. This determines that there is an update and you just have to click on it. After finishing this installation, remove your EE2 from the PC again, start the device and check if the following cards are now on it:

INTL Standard Basemap, NR
Garmin DEM Map Europe 2026.10
Garmin Geocode Map Europe 2026.10
Topoactive Europe, West 2026.11

Maps created on Cycle Travel no longer overlay the Garmin maps

I have been using the Cycle Travel app to create GPs routes which I then transfer to my Garmin. Recently I have found that the Cycle Travel routes no longer 100% overlay the Garmin map.-By this I mean it looks as if there were two roads running in parallel with each other for large parts of the journey.

I have created lots of routes previously with Cycle Travel and have never seen this problem before.

Mostly the lack of overlay didn't matter too much but it can be confusuing when you had several roads near to each other, particularly when you are navigating through a town.

Does anyone know why this might be happening and how I can fix it?

When will 2026.10 Europe maps be back?

Looking through the IQ store I found Di2Explore but it didn't work. It just displayed "Time" in one corner and a 5-digit number in the middle of the screen, and the developer hasn't responded to my question.

Anyone know of another way to display the current gears of Wheeltop EDS TX electronic shifters, ideally with battery status?

Turn by turn Navigation stopped working

Before everything was fine, but since I transfer the cource from RideWithGPS (or with an update to the device I don't know) with the Send to Garmin turn by turn is not working. I get the course on the map, but not indication on whats the next turn.

After using all sorts of apps over the years — from Google Maps to GeoVelo, Strava, and Komoot — and completely wearing out my phone battery after what must be around 22,000 km of riding in the last few years , I finally bought a Garmin Edge Explore 2 and I’m honestly very, very happy with it.

I’m also really happy to be part of this group

I do have a couple of questions for people who have been using these devices longer than I have (I’ve only had mine about a month):

GPS responsiveness

It seems to me that the GPS can sometimes be a bit slow to react. For example, when I import a GPX trace into the Garmin, it occasionally updates my position a few hundred meters late. I also tried using the routing directly from the Garmin itself and noticed the same thing sometimes.

Another issue is that here in France it often wants to send me onto roads with cars and doesn’t always recognize the small dirt roads or bike paths that I regularly use.

Is there a way to improve GPS responsiveness or map accuracy?

Or is this just normal behavior with imported traces and Garmin routing?

Temperature reading

Yesterday I noticed the Garmin temperature was about 2°C higher than the actual outdoor temperature according to my iPhone.

Is that normal?

Does body heat or sunlight affect the sensor that much?

Wind speed

It would also be wonderful to have wind speed and wind direction while riding, but apparently Garmin doesn’t really offer that directly.

Has anyone found a good workaround or app integration for this?

Has anyone had this issue of following your route & the prompts says turn left/right, but if the next turning is a short distance away, the device never tells you to turn, but still shows the previous turning prompt?

Still NO fix.. Bloody annoying...
