Completed activities show elevation gain as zero.

I'm finding that my 840 non-solar seems to stop syncing. E.g. if I send a new course to the device from connect, it doesn't arrive. If I then reboot the device, it arrives straight away.

Has anybody else had this problem or have a suggestion for a fix?

Hi, Garmin - KS Trying to do a manual sync via BT or wifi doesn't work either. The problem seems related to the Edge getting stuck somehow that only a reboot fixes.

It sounds like for the "permanent profile" in your second question that you are talking about the Elevation data page. That page can be enabled that page by going to Menu> Activity Profiles> Select a Profile> Data Screens> Add New> Elevation.

You can also add an elevation graph data field to most data screens.

Does anyone else find this happens ?

It's possible it just doesn't recalculate the scaling / offset when there's a change of route (so a recalculation to avoid a hill may show the new route profile, but still scaled to fit the original hills ?)

Swipe away to a different screen and back again has it redraw

Also, any way to get a permanent profile showing for a free ride (not just triggered on climbs) - as my previous Wahoo Bolt did ?

Thanks for the post Grb . If possible, please post video or screenshots of what you're seeing. It sounds like something we'll want to get reported, and that'll help in doing so. Please also confirm your device software is up to date (v31.33) and if that happens on all recalculated routes.

As far as a permanent profile showing, I am double checking on this and will report back.

I recently updated to 31.33 and my elevation is still not recording properly. I have reset the device, recalibrated the device, verified there is no debris obstructing the device. However, the elevation still is not properly recording.

Garmin Coach Not Syncing Properly Between Garmin Connect and Edge 840

I'm still experiencing syncing issues between Garmin Coach on the Garmin Connect mobile app and my Edge 840. I know this has been reported several times in the past, and I've seen Garmin posts indicating the issue was fixed, but I'm continuing to run into the same problem.

The main issue is that Garmin Connect and my Edge 840 often show different workouts or different plan information. I'm only using a single device (the Edge 840), so there shouldn't be any conflicts caused by multiple Garmin devices.

I came across a suggestion from another user to pause and then restart the Coach plan. After doing that, the mobile app and the Edge 840 synced correctly and showed the same information again. While that workaround helped, it's not something I want to keep doing every few days.

What's especially frustrating is that it makes it difficult to plan my training week. Depending on whether I look at Garmin Connect or the Edge 840, I may see different workouts scheduled. There have been times when I've gotten ready for a ride based on what the mobile app showed, only to find that the Edge 840 had a completely different workout loaded.

Has anyone else experienced this recently? If so, have you found a permanent fix, or are you also relying on the pause/restart workaround?

Thanks for the post, George! Please try the steps outlined in the following FAQ: Sending a Saved Course from Garmin Connect to a Garmin Device

I also recommend making sure that the Edge software is up-to-date. If the course still doesn't appear right away, then you could also try manually syncing by selecting Menu > Connected Features > Phone > Sync Now (for Bluetooth), or Menu > Connected Features > Wi-Fi > Wi-Fi Sync (for Wi-Fi).

for me the same issue on Edge 540 since software 30.xx

What helps me always as workaround is: to turn on Bluetooth first, then turn on WiFi and start to sync.

If Bluetooth is turned off, it will not sync via WiFi.

Yeah but for that price that's no solution for me. I will change to another platform, it really disappointing from Garmin that they don't care about their customers.

I recently completed Race Across the East. My Garmin functioned perfectly throughout the 61 hour 630 mile event. When I saved the event everything disappeared. No ride is shown for June 24th to 26th and no .fit file exists in the Activity directory. I'd really like to recover that data from a ride of a lifetime event. I have tried a couple file recovery tools but they haven't located a "deleted" file to restore. Anyone have any ideas?

next time save it everyday and merge the daily files with fitfiletools into one file. the garmin was NEVER GOOD for multiday ride with tons of sleep modes and paused switch offs... and ALWAYS use a secondary device (a smartwatch or dedicated mobile only for GNSS recording ) as backup.

I have a race scheduled on my Garmin calendar for Saturday. My Edge 840 shows this as a primary event.

However, the training plan shows Saturday as a “rest day.”

Why does the training plan think Saturday is a rest day, while the calendar has a primary event on that day?

Just to follow up. Without me doing anything (other than taking a couple of rides), map manager on the device is no longer saying there are updates to the above versions. To be honest, the whole Express/Update procedure feels very dated compared to even the most basic modern devices. Note: I see that the latest version of Express will not run on the next update to MacOS so I assume a completely new version mist be on the way. We will have to wait to discover whether it will just be a recompile or complete redesign...

Updating maps/Garmin Express Hangs with 840

I've not had reason to use Express for a while on my Mac (M4 CPU 26.5.2), but it's been there running, silently waiting to trip me up! Since upgrading to 840 all my software updates have been on the device, I've never needed to connect.

My Edge 840 now says there are map updates. If I try to update on the device over wifi it says 'searching for wifi networks' or 'waiting for existing wifi transfer' and does nothing. I can see that no traffic is passing over the wifi network..

As far as I can see on the device I am on Basemap 7.0, TopoActive Europe 2026.11

So, connected to Mac with cable and tried an update there. It eventually found the device and showed map updates. The update failed after 90 minutes.

I tried again, it said reconnect the device (that was already connected and showing green).

To cut things short, since then I've been chasing my tail, I've tried removing Express and all the files it leaves behind, re-installing it, a soft reset of the 840, whatever, Express hangs with the startup banner or, tells me to plug in the device when it already is, it hangs if I disconnect the Edge, hangs if I don't. On the odd occasion that it does connect, Express says everything is up to date. If I then refresh it hangs.

Am I alone in finding this? I have owned many Garmin devices (4 bike computers, bike lights/radar, Fenix and other watches) and never seen Express behave like this.

Rollback software to 30.18

Is there a way to rollback to 30.18 software? It was latest stable software that worked, with new 30.29 I have more problems that I can imagine. I think rolling back

I've already had:

multiple connectiq apps crashes
multiple problems with varia 515 - it connects to device but device is not seeing it connected - altough bike radar connect iq reported vehicles and approaching speed - restarting device usually helps, but I don't want to do that few times during ride
ride where 80 minutes of ride was swallowed - so device worked fine for 6km, then I had to stop to restart it because of connectiq crashing. After restart I've started recording and all looked good - navigation, speed, power, hr data but at 35km device crashed fatally - collecting memory dump and doing restart on it's own. Data after restart was collected and saved. So about 30km of data was missing where device was working fine and it was looking it is recording. What is more fun is that lap statistics and some other data was
device freezing
map loading issues during navigation (on 100m zoom) - like 25% of screen is empty waiting for map part to load

More detailed info about last crash, as I was trying to recover that:

Device: Garmin Edge 840 (product 4062), software 31.29
Unit serial: 3445162280
GNSS module: Garmin GNSS (product 3865), sw 16.01
Date of incident: 2026-06-04, activity started 16:00:29 (CEST)
Paired sensors: Quarq power meter (ANT+), Polar HR strap, SRAM eTap, + one Garmin ANT+ sensor (varia rtl515)

What happened:
About 16 minutes into a recorded road ride (while actively navigating a loaded course), a ConnectIQ app/data field crashed. The device
then power-cycled and rebooted several times over the next ~83 minutes. After the first crash the activity recorder stopped writing per-second record
messages, but the device otherwise stayed functional — navigation worked and distance/lap/split/power data kept accumulating.

Timeline (from the activity FIT event log):
- 16:16:23 — timer stop_all (recording stops writing records)
- 16:16:46 — power_down
- (EventLogs show further boots at ~16:48, ~17:07–17:09, ~17:27)
- 17:39:47 — power_up
- 17:40:10 — timer start (per-second recording resumes normally)

Impact:
The saved activity is missing the GPS track and all per-second sensor data for 16:16–17:40 (~83 min, ~28 km) — it appears as a straight-line gap on the map.
Interestingly, total distance (59.8 km), lap summaries, ClimbPro and split power/HR were retained, so only the per-second record stream was lost, not the trip
totals. This points to the recorder being left in a broken state by the CIQ crash/reboots rather than a simple power-off.

Crash artifacts available on request:
- ramdumpC1.zip — encrypted RAM dump (header dump2(kfp="fd57e84dfc")) generated at the 17:39 reboot
- /Garmin/Debug/EventLogs/ (00000172–00000179.TXT) — boot/reset entries spanning the incident
- The affected activity .fit

Persistent navigation prompt

Running 31.33.

When following a course after popping up a navigation prompt (when map is on ), this prompt stays on screen quite a long time (30 - 60 second), obscuring your location or even the next turn you have to make. I consider this a bug.

Any experiences?
