"saving diagnostics" boot loop after map update 2026.10

Yesterday, Garmin Express said there is an update for the map (topoactive 2026.10) which I installed to the Edge (and FR970).

Today I wanted to load a route and it crashed. Since then it's stuck in a boot loop (GARMIN - Saving Diagnostics, each page maybe 2sec).
By holding the power button I can shut it down, but when powering it back up it's stuck again in the boot loop. Connecting it to the PC with GE doesn't work either.

Since I have no other idea, I'll let the battery drain - fingers crossed.

    I got the same problem. During my today's ride my Edge 540 just turned off and is in a boot loop. I cant turn the device off nor resett. The screen shows for a moment "saving diagnostis". I update yesterday evening the maps as well. Perhaps there is something wrong with the maps and the device is bricked...Just contacted the Garmin support but I guess that it will take a couple of days to get an answer.

    Edit: Updated the Edge 540 yesterday: Loader 31.21 + Central Europe 2026.10

    Dame here today. Last week map update.

    today loaded tour, at some point a reroute was needed and bam it says nothing more then the „Saving diagnostics“, like the others no further funktions.

    Same here, got the device yesterday. Was able to hard reset it after the bug occured the 1st time, started a tour and after ~10 minutes the problem reoccurred and now it's hard stuck in the loop (no reset possible)

    I can confirm the same behaviour. Bricked! crashed during the rerouting process during an activity

    Same problem this morning with my Edge 1040. Updated yesterday, and crash just a few seconds after start riding. Since then reboot every 7 seconds without a chance to stop. Pressing the "lap Button" will only show "Loader 30.18". No chance to get in filesystem.

    Hope there will be a chance to reactivate the system.

    I got the same problem with my edge 840. no chance to hard reset, cant get it to connect to windows or mac either even though i get to the MTS mode. garmin express wont recognize the device neither.

    I’m experiencing the same issue with my Edge 1040 Solar. Yesterday, I updated to "Central Europe 2026.10," and today it crashed during navigation. Since then, it’s been stuck in a loop.
    I can’t access the filesystem from my computer :-( and none of the hard reset options are working.

    Hi, I ordered a Garmin Edge 840 three days ago. Yesterday while setting it up initally, the device chrashed two times (showing a repeated loop saying "Saving Diagnostics" and was not responsive anymore) while trying to start a route. I needed a hard reset to make it function again... today during my first (!) ride with this device, i was riding for maybe 10 minutes until the device chrashed again when it was calculating a reroute. Since then, I was not able to start it gain. It is stuck now in this "Saving diagnostics" loop

    Same problem with my garmin edge 840 loader 30.18. Shows Garmin logo, then "Saving Diagnostics" then reboots, again and again.
