Low storage in new unit returning

am returning the 840 after messing with it today in my chair.  Total frustration with lack of a brand new unit and practically no storage.  Not enough storage for an updated map, what the heck is taking up 32 gb of storage?  Plus, the unit is starting activities while I am stationary.  Forget it, I don’t need the aggravation

  • Yeah.  When I got mine it had maps for all of North America and Europe.  I used Garmin Express to remove the EU maps and it freed up a lot of storage. Sounds like you have Auto Start enabled in the Activity Profile.  If the threshold speed is set too low, GPS position noise can trigger an auto start.  The 840 has a ton of features and it can be quite a learning curve, especially when it was doing things I didn't want done.  After I used mine for a bit I figured out how to turn off all the automatic stuff I didn't want.

  •  If you're seeing a "Not Enough Memory" error in Garmin Express when attempting to install a map update, please follow the instructions outlined here: Not Enough Memory Error for My Edge in Garmin Express

With regard to it starting activities when you're stationary,  is likely correct. The Edge 840 features an Auto Start setting that automatically begins the activity timer when it detects movement with satellites acquired. You can check this setting by selecting Menu > Activity Profiles > Select a profile > Timer > Timer Start Mode.
