Climb Pro Issue

'I bought the 840 a few months ago, and I have been having various 'issues' with it, which may be sorted by 'asking the question'!

First up, ClimbPro.

I do like this, however....  When using the 840 to navigate, ClimbPro works correctly, and there is no map obscuring half the screen (I checked the appropriate box in the Map screen menu). When in non-navigate mode, however, the map is present and covers half the screen (including two data fields at the top).  Can this be removed? '

I mentioned this in a previous post. This is the Climb Pro display when I'm not following a route. This cannot be right, as not only is the screen dominated by a map I don't need, but the top data fields are not visible.

  • This map is there to show you where the climb is. Automatic off-route CP works when you are closing to the climb, not necessary already on it and you may want to turn to climb it whole or to avoid it and in both cases map is helpful, or at least thats the idea.

  • This is what the screen looks like when following a route -

  • I can the benefits of both of these approaches. I guess it would be best if it was a user-selectable option or if the "map" screen changed to the non-map screen once the climb had commenced.

  • I have spoken directly to Garmin about this. The appearance of the map, when not following a route, is by design and cannot be removed. I have suggested a change via Garmin's Ideas platform to either i) have the option to prevent the map from appearing completely or ii) have it disappear once the climb commences.

  • Can you paste your suggestion into this thread? I'll then copy it and also post it into the Ideas area, perhaps increasing the likelihood of it being taken into consideration.

  • You can change this behaviour - mine no longer automatically shows that. For me that is quite useless due to size of the data fields as well.

Looking at what I have mine set, I think it is this setting: Go to Activity Profile you want to change, then Data Screens, then ClimbPro, and then on the ClimbPro screen turn off the option for "Pop-up on Climb Approach".

When I get to an identified climb, the "Climb" prompt shows up and I think when you click that, it will show the ClimbPro screen.

  • Thanks, I did see this option, but thought it would stop ClimbPro from appearing altogether. I shall give it a go and let you know how I get on.

I do consider this a workaround, and there should be the option to turn the map off when not following a route.

  • As mentioned, I have already suggested the change via the Ideas platform

  • True that... you can then select ClimbPro, manually. I now understand what you're after! Keeping ClimbPro but removing the ap portion only. Have not been in the ClimbPro screen for a bit to catch in - apologies. Very good suggestion.

  • I changed the setting as suggested.  The Climb notification appeared, and I had to swipe to the ClimbPro screen to view it.  And.....the map is there, obscuring half the screenFrowning2
