Backlight delay on touch

I've noticed shortly, that when the backlight is off and I wake the device (during an activity or not) by tapping the screen, that the backlight goes on after a second or more.
The device/screen responds as always instantaneously, only the backlight is delayed, which is annoying during activities in the dark, when I want to check the map eg.

Anybody with the same issue?

  • yes, I know. It's BS

  • If this is true,  than its the worst design decision i have ever ever heard in my sw-dev carrier...there would be so many, much  better, approaches than starting always from 0...

Reading this really make me doubt the "quality" of garmin edge software and really thinking to buy a device from a competitor, as this is such a significant feature, a must have which need to work!

I hope garmin can read this..

Im quite angry to read this answer from them..Grinning

  • The question I have is why do so many people want the backlight off in the first place? I can understand that on older Garmin's where the backlight was a significant power drain but on the 840 you've got at least 20 hours with the backlight on Auto permanently. So why not just put it on Auto and leave it there? Then the delay problem goes away.

  • I've never got 20 hours out of my 840, not even when it was new. Which GNSS mode do you use, none? Indoor rides only?
Backlight eats the most juice after multiband gnss out of the battery.

  • Release note from the newest beta software 31.15:

    • Fixed brightness slider at 0% causing screen to appear to be off.

I think, they fixed it! But I dont won't to enroll beta on my device:)

  • no, they didnt, everything is the same. this was a diff. bug.
