The 830 was released in early 2019, so it is old. Garmin has released many newer devices since then, they never go back and update old models, so you're SOL asking them to do so, that will fall on deaf ears, even if you formally submit a request.

Mine works perfect for my needs and I don't intend to replace it anytime soon.

Hi Garmin,

My Edge 830 won't support 13 speeds (SRAM XPLR). Can you please fix this problem with a firmware update?

The device works perfectly fine so I was not planning to switch to a newer model, just because of the software. It is a lot of money and also not environmental friendly to throw away a device because of no support for newer drivetrains.

The 830 (at least mine) is not that old, and it would be a pitty!

I sure don't plan to replace the device yet. It would be nice to be able to leverage the full visibity of the AXS XPLR x13, and also the buttons!

#2: registrate to intervals.icu, upload all activities there and you can make "seasons" or given timeframe for your best efforts , and you can analyze everything there.

Hi, I’m unable to figure out how to clear my power curve records. Now that I’m older and don’t ride as much, my power output isn’t as high as 5-10 years ago so I’m chasing unrealistic numbers. Just want to wipe out my current numbers and start from scratch. Any advice is appreciated!

It shows all climbs. The weird thing is that with some routes I imported from friends the climb shows up as normal. But when I make a route myself via the website Garmin connect and transfer it to my device it doesn't.

I make routes on Garmin connect.com. (Mac) There is see the amount of climbs I have and so on. When I transfer it then from the app (iPhone) to my Edge 830 the climbs don't show anyone and so neither the climb function pops up. I have some routes that I imported from others and then it works perfectly! So not sure where the problem is in this case. Anyone had the same?

what is climb category setting in the Edge? maybe this course has only small climbs which not enough for the selected climb cat to pop up

17 file, 15.4 mb occupied for that. 2.91 GB free. I don't think that's the problem. And yes, a restore wouldn't make things go worse. I'll try, but as it doesn't occur every time, but just from time to time, it doesn't give me so much peace of mind.Thanks for the link.

Hi everyone,

My Garmin Edge 830 froze during today's ride. On Garmin Connect it only shows the first 7 km (that was what I was seeing for the whole ride....), but the total ride was 85 km.

I really need to recover the full file because I don't want to lose my power meter data (watts) and performance metrics.

Could anyone please help me fix it and close the file properly?

113kb is way short of what would be expected for 85km so recovery of the rest of the data doesn't sound promising.

If you haven’t already done so, check how many activities are stored and how much storage space is left on the device.

If you decide to perform a reset, remember to back up your settings first so they can be restored afterwards.

Given that you're experiencing problems with you device, there isn't much to lose by resetting it

I don't thinks that's not the reason ("unmount"). I've done it for 4 years, only happening in the las 2-3 months. Never an error message when plugged-unplugged to the computer. I know about the hard reset, but not sure if it would 100% solve the issue or it's a matter of "obsolescence"

maybe a factory reset helps (what is very important, before you remove your Edge from the computer, you always must unmount it /bottom right taskbar in Win/, otherwise the file system can be corrupted and can cause random freezes, this is why i asked you about an error message after mounting on WIN)

I have had some frozen issues with the 830 lately, but never that way (that it get stuck in one "second" and never advance). Does anyone think there is a 100% real solution, or should I ditch the 830? When I've pressed the buttons today, it has keeping beeping for 10 minutes... It was a race, so really annoying to have lost that info. Thanks.

i think that is very small (depending on the number of used sensors ofc), my 3-4hs ride is apprx 800kb, 70min ride is 300-350kbyte (hrm and power and every sec recording). so somewhy the recording is stopped in your case very early. if you plug the 830 onto the computer (if it is WIN PC and not MAC), do you get any error message about the storage condition and should be fixed with scandisk or similar?

how big is the FIT file, check the activity folder, if it is only a few ten Kbyte, then you lost the majority of the ride.

I understand Garmin’s historical support cycle.

But at the same time, many users are beginning to question whether replacing still perfectly functional premium hardware every few years is really a good long-term direction for the industry.

Especially for devices like the Edge 830, which are still more than capable for most riders today.

Bosch eBike integration for Edge 830?

Hi everyone,

I noticed that the new Bosch eBike integration is currently only available for newer devices like the Edge 840.

I’m using an Edge 830, which still works perfectly and is still a very capable device. From a technical perspective, it feels like it should be able to support this feature as well.

Are there any known technical limitations, or is there a chance this could be added in the future?

I think extending support to the Edge 830 would be great in terms of sustainability and long-term customer satisfaction.

Would anyone else like to see this?

the releasing date is the important, not the latest units from the corner of the inventory. 1030 released in 2017, 530/830 in 2019, same family, (almost) same firmwares. 7years old, in every 2 years they release a new family so maximum 4ys is the support period. it happened like this in the past 15 years for sure...

Last I checked, 2023 as a model year is hardly ancient. Obviously they'd like to sell more units, but that will be an issue if people can't resell their old units because they're obsolete after only 3 years.

When I put a UK search location into my device it crashes. My maps are up to date. This is usually a railway station, not always close by. I go to POI - Transportation or Ground transportation and use the keypad to put in the place name. I've tried both with and without adding 'Railway'

I get a short spinning symbol, the the screen goes dark and my device restarts.
