Then we basically agree that this is mainly a product lifecycle decision rather than a strict technical impossibility.

And that was exactly my original point.

I completely understand Garmin’s business perspective, but I also think customers are justified in discussing longer software support for still capable premium devices instead of replacing hardware more frequently than necessary.

Bosch eBike integration for Edge 830?

Hi everyone,

I noticed that the new Bosch eBike integration is currently only available for newer devices like the Edge 840.

I’m using an Edge 830, which still works perfectly and is still a very capable device. From a technical perspective, it feels like it should be able to support this feature as well.

Are there any known technical limitations, or is there a chance this could be added in the future?

I think extending support to the Edge 830 would be great in terms of sustainability and long-term customer satisfaction.

Would anyone else like to see this?

it is simple product support decision, regarding the income/cost (with x20 series it would be techically impossible due to hw limitation, lack of BT LE support in the comm chip). They never communicate such a thing, neither if they made a mistake in hw design which causing unfixable issues (just the complete unit replace is the solution) and they need to redesign the PCB after the release and manufacture new revision from a given day (and selling these under the same product name ofc)

Those are actually fair technical points, and if the Edge 830 genuinely lacks the resources or architecture required for this Bosch integration, then that would already answer my original question.

I never claimed Garmin must implement it at all costs.

I simply think it’s reasonable for users to ask whether support is technically impossible, or whether it was mainly a product support decision.

And honestly, transparent communication from manufacturers about those limitations would probably avoid a lot of these discussions in the first place.

i know that the x30 is a relatively good product (besides the non-fixed bugs like timestamp issue which makes the strava flyby "funny" on a group ride or race, or the sensor dropouts with certain sensor combo, but the 9.81 beta may fix it for all sensor combo , or the jaggy speed chart on Strava due to the location data duplication in FIT file due the the insufficent resources in the code for the GNSS chip. these are still in the latest stable or beta since 2-3 years and not fixed, and these are just small task comparing implemented a new special BT sensor protocol for Bosch stuffs...)

I actually understand your point, and I agree that companies usually prioritize newer products.

I’m also not denying that the 840/850 series has clear hardware advantages like multiband GNSS.

But this specific Bosch integration does not seem fundamentally tied to GNSS performance, which is why I asked the question in the first place.

And honestly, I think it’s still reasonable for users to discuss whether certain software features could remain available on capable older premium devices.

The Edge 830 may be older, but it is still far from unusable or outdated for many cyclists.

Maybe Garmin will never implement it — that’s possible. But asking for longer-lasting software support is still a valid discussion in 2026.

just staying in Garmin world, they developed (after 2years than other brands...) the virtual shifting for Neo 2T-3 (old Neo2 owners were happy due to exactly the same firmware runs on 2T and the ancient old 2 which was EOL since years, so the key is the similar code here, as with x40 and x50) but not for the older Neo, those users were unhappy too. but usually a new (bigger) feature means new device at every brands. so unnecessary write half pages here, they wont implement, it is 1000%, they forgot already where they saved the latest 2-3years old code... btw the 830 has weak GNSS reception (inaccurate tracks in challenging terrain), the 840 has pinpoint accuracy with multiband/multignss, i know well, i have both (but the 830 is used very rarely by my wife). in my big strava club the users have x40 or x50 series, just a very few x30 or older, everybody is asking a replace (with a small extra cost) by Garmin or selling it to newbies.
x30 got 7years support, other brands give less ... so do not stress on it too much...

I know exactly what world I live in — one where many people are getting tired of replacing perfectly functional hardware every few years.

Yes, companies need profit. But customer loyalty, sustainability and long-term software support also create value for a brand.

The Edge 830 is still a capable and widely used device. Asking whether a software feature could also be supported there is a completely fair question.

the Garmin wont spend a cent for the engineers salary to develop a new code for an ancient old unit which is not on the market, they dont sell x30 so they wont earn profit. everything what you want is just a loss for them. if they develop a new feature for an existing unit, that will generate new customers also which means profit for them. i dont know in what kind of world do you live...

That’s exactly the mindset I’m questioning.

The Edge 830 is still a perfectly capable device and works flawlessly for many users. End-of-life should not automatically mean that every new software feature becomes impossible overnight — especially when the hardware is still more than powerful enough.

Sustainability and long-term support matter to many customers today. Not everyone wants to replace functional hardware every few years just to access software features.

I fully understand that Garmin focuses on newer devices, but asking whether support could still be technically possible for the 830 is a completely reasonable discussion.

if you wanna bosch integration, replace your Edge for a newer one, the x30 support is stopped since more than 2ys, EOL, it means they wont spend a single second for its firmware already. x40 or x50, go for it.

Adding my voice to this request as another Edge 830 owner.

I ride a Canyon Neuron:ON AL 7 with the Bosch Performance Line CX Gen 5 motor, and I'd really appreciate seeing Bosch Live Data Interface support extended to the Edge 830. The 830 is still a fully capable device that many of us continue to use daily, and it already handles BLE sensor pairings without issue — which is the underlying technology the Live Data Interface relies on.

From a technical standpoint, there doesn't seem to be a hardware barrier preventing this integration. Limiting support to the x40 and x50 series (plus the new Edge MTB) feels more like product segmentation than a genuine technical constraint, especially for a device Garmin still actively supports with firmware updates.

For e-MTB riders, having battery level, cadence, and motor power on the same screen as navigation, heart rate, and Trailforks would be a meaningful quality-of-life improvement — without forcing an upgrade to a newer Edge just to access data our bikes are already broadcasting.

Please consider expanding the compatibility list. There's clear demand here, and the Edge 830 community would very much welcome this addition.

So, initially I had the same issue other people have been describing here, that is that my Garmin got stuck in a boot loop after I send a new route to my device. I then most often "fixed" it by pressing the loop button during it turning on again. This has worked for like a week now but I got pretty annoyed by this already as it didn't seem as if there was some clear pattern to this.

Anyhow I then opted to hard reset my Garmin after this has been an ongoing issue for some time but now my Garmin won't pair / connect to my phone anymore at all. To be precise my Garmin "pairs" with the Connect App but the second everything is "set up" it crashes instantly, reboots, and some kind of ghost bluetooth connection remains that both my Garmin and Connect App acknowledge visually but not when it comes to actually being connected or sending data from A to B. I did all common steps, removing the device, forgetting the bluetooth connection, clearing the cache, rebooting both systems, the phone and garmin, tried all of this like 4 times, no changes. I feel as if this is an error I only encountered now with the new app update and it freaking sucks - I literally only want and need my garmin to navigate me from A to B on long rides, but right now it can't even handle that, which is very annoying tbh.

Please fix this as fast as possible, I really want this thing to work again and it is obviously some weird software issue.

Otherwise I'm obivously also happy about any community fixes.

I know this has been raised a number of times - never seen it myself until my last 2 rides. An event allowed me to download the route from Ride GPS ( GPX file) - all good and saved to my Garmin. However on the day , pressed ride and got the message above. Tried changing seeting on navigation ie turn off popularity etc - no avail . It is a routable map - I can see it ride GPS - so annoying

If a routable map covering the ride area is installed on your device, check that it is enabled in the activity profile being used.

When I put a UK search location into my device it crashes.

When I put a UK search location into my device it crashes. My maps are up to date. This is usually a railway station, not always close by. I go to POI - Transportation or Ground transportation and use the keypad to put in the place name. I've tried both with and without adding 'Railway'

I get a short spinning symbol, the the screen goes dark and my device restarts.

Predefined replies to WhatsApp or texts from Edge 830 not working

This had been working fine for years on my Edge 830 and previously also on an Edge 530 that I used to own. Whenever I would get a WhatsApp message, the notification would show up on the Edge and it would give me the option to dismiss it, or to reply, and then I could select one of the predefined replies from the list, for example " Out riding " and send it.

And all of a sudden this has stopped working a few days ago. It just shows the notification but it no longer gives me the option to reply.

I have an Android phone.

Is anybody else experiencing this?

ETA to Dest, this is simple math, why is it wrong

Out riding yesterday I was curious what time I'd get home so I checked this page. I know ETA to Dest is useless but I was taken aback by how wrong this is. Basic math, 14.2 miles divided by 12.9 mph (average speed) gives just over an hour (1 hour, 6 minutes). It was 4pm at the time so the ETA should be 5 something. Why even pretend to have data fields if you can't be bothered to get them right and besides, what could the formula possibly be that is so off.

Later, when I was close to the end, it was kind of accurate. Not at all useful because with 1/2 a mile to go I don't really care but it seems someone tried to be clever here but whatever they did just isn't working.

This is the current software release, 9.75. This has been going on for years Why can't this be fixed. Just set the calculation to distance remaining divided by average speed and if average speed is zero, set it to --- or something so smoke doesn't come out the sides when you divide by zero.

If you need some help with this, maybe you can use code like this

I prefer average speed to current speed as after hours of riding, average speed is a much better predictor of when I'll finish than whatever my speed happens to be at the moment due to terrain/whatever. Maybe a rolling average would work best but I'm not sure how much of a difference it makes. Probably depends on how long the ride is. If current speed works for you though, that's great.

I complained years ago about how inacurate it is, I could never work out what the alogarithm it uses, it is based on average speed with a percentage or something like that.

But, I work around it by creating my own data pages or using data pages from Connect IQ and use current speed for the calculation as it is the most accurate and changes instantly as you speed up or slow down

SRAM XPLR 13 speed support

My Edge 830 won't support 13 speeds (SRAM XPLR). Can you please fix this problem with a firmware update?

The device works perfectly fine so I was not planning to switch to a newer model, just because of the software. It is a lot of money and also not environmental friendly to throw away a device because of no support for newer drivetrains.

I have two bikes. A Roubaix and an Aethos2. I renamed one profile Roubaix and I renamed another profile as Aethos. I have separate speed and cadence sensors for each bikes. All sensors have been added. Unfortunately, the sensors on either bike only activate when in the Roubaix profile. They do not activate in any other profile. I understand the 830 has a sensor pool and each profile SHOULD pull from that pool. At present only one profile is pulling from that pool when I start riding. How do I fix it so every profile pulls from the sensor pool?
