Edge 820, Firmware 11.0
I loaded a GPX course and started following it. My options are TBT off, off-course warnings on. My profile navigation options are "Popularity mode off; "recalculation off"; "Lock on road off", "Default routing mode: MTB", "Routing mode: MTB", Avoidance setup (all off).
Since this was a raw GPX file with no waypoints in the path, as long as I was on the planned route the "Distance to end" and "distance to the next" were equal and gave the correct distance to the end of the course.
However, as soon as I went off course, the "distance to the end" and "distance to the next" became different and in some way I was not able to understand the logic behind the values. I was more than 10Km (in straight line) from the end and the "distance to the end" showed 1.2Km and distance to the next about "500m". At a given point, these values became frozen, and only when I returned to the course they recovered and showed both the correct "distance to the end". At the same time, the compass pointed to the wrong direction (my planned path was about 100m to my left, and the compass pointed to my right).
In my previous units (EDGE 800/Touring), as well as with the Edge 820 at least up to version 3.2, with similar setup, when I wented off course the distance to the end froze on the last on-course value of distance to the end (makes sense, since off course with recalculation off the unit does not know how far you are from the end), the "distance to the next" displayed the distance to the nearest course point and the compass pointed to the nearest course point. All these option made sense to me.
My question are the following: with the above described setup and firmware version 11.0, when you go off course, what are the meaning of the following fields:
a) Distance to end?
b) Distance to the next?
c) What direction points the big compass arrow?
Thanks in advance for any hint.
