Moving average speed

Hi guys,

Almost a year ago I bought the Edge 820 as the replacement of my Garmin Dakota 20. A data field I had set on my Dakota 20 was moving average speed, so standing still at the traffic light had no effect on my average speed.
Now with my Edge 820 it seems only be possible to set the total average speed data field, so I only can see afterwards on Strava, what my "real" average speed was. Does anyone have an idea how to get the good old "moving average speed" back on my Edge 820?

Enable auto-pause.

That's not the solution to the asked question. It's a way to make the average speed the average riding speed. I'm interested by the two speeds. Average riding for my performance and average to help me with my timing (knowing at what time i'll be where) in the context of endurance rides.

Your question in your original post was how to get moving average speed back, which enabling auto-pause will do. You did not say you also wanted to see actual average speed. Seeing both is not possible on the 820 AFAIK.

Using standard data fields it is not possible to show both, but it would not be that hard to to write a CIQ data field that computes average speed using the elapsed time and then enable auto-pause to use the standard data field to give you moving average speed.

Not sure if this example is doing moving or total average speed.
