Does checking for updates work over wifi? My Edge 550 is just stuck on the screen saying "Check for Updates". Software version 30.18.

Thanks for the post, 5373016! Yes, checking for updates should work over Wi-Fi. Please try rebooting your device by holding the Power button down for 12 seconds. If this issue persists, then it may not hurt to remove the Wi-Fi network and add it again from the beginning, as explained here: Setting Up Wi-Fi on a Watch or Edge Cycling Computer

Same behaviour with mine, bought last week. None of the workarounds from Garmin worked. Returned to the seller.

I've reset my brand new Garmin Edge 550 over 10 times now. When I attempt to connect to Wifi it just says "Transfer in Progress". If I leave the device it goes to sleep and disconnects the wifi so if it was miraculously updating it stops. This is completely unacceptable Garmin...

Is the function Virtual Partner available on Garmin Edge 550?

I don't know how to use it. On my old EDGE520 it was very simple.

Does anyone know how to activate the function?

The menu item to activate the VP gets added when a course is selected and "Ride" picked.

There will be an entry on the controls widget in the widget loop.

From the home page use the up button to entry the widget loop. Then advance to the control loop

normally it can sync via everything, i dont know what is the problem with x50 family... 5mins should be enough, but via GE it is much quicker (and normally via BT or inbuilt wifi also).

That seems to only affect the unit during a ride in the activity profile. I guess it's worth a go. I'm also guessing it will turn WiFi off and I've still no clue if it will update via the mobile

Edge 530 constantly detects "jumps" while riding

Hi everyone,

I've had this issue with my Garmin Edge 530 since the day I bought it.

While I'm out riding, it constantly detects and records "jumps" even though I'm not actually jumping. A small bump, a rough section of road, or an uneven surface is often enough to trigger a jump detection.

To give you an idea, on a typical 20 km ride it may record around 30 jumps, when in reality there are probably only 1 or 2 that could genuinely be considered jumps.

Has anyone else experienced this? Could it be an accelerometer calibration issue, a software bug, or even a hardware fault? Is there any way to adjust the jump detection sensitivity or disable only the jump detection feature?

When on the map do a long press of the top right hand button on the Edge of the device

This gives you access to changing the map zoom level using the up/down buttons. When done hit the back button.

Lose Edge 500 connection to garmin watch

Many times during a bike ride my Edge 550 stops showing the heart rate being broadcast from my Garmin Venu 3 watch. Both devices are charged to 100%. Usually the connection is lost within the first 15-20 minutes of a 2-hour the ride. It DOES NOT ever reconnect on its own. I have to go the entire rest of the 2-hour ride with no heart rate on the Edge (I have to constantly look at my watch).

Various help threads say "simply" restart the watch or restart the Edge, but of course I would have to stop the bike, cancel the ride and restart the ride data, and then all the stats (miles etc) are screwed up if I did that.Unless there's a way to reconnect the watch and Edge on the fly.

Any theories? Fixes?

I would like to apologise for the above post. In fact, my problem with the ClimbPro page was due to the fact that, with my new Edge 550, I still hadn't discovered how to filter for "real" climbs. After I discovered and activated the filter, ClimbPro worked perfectly. Yesterday I used it and found it a precious tool. ClimPro, together with Stamina, are a real upgrade from my previous Edge 530.

In relazione alla schermata "ClimbPro":

- ho notato che fa popup anche su salite praticamente inesistenti (esempio, via Dante a Finale Ligure, ove pendenze sono meno del 1%); il popup è fastidioso perchè elimina la schermata che si stava guardando;

- anche mettendo "off" il popup automatico, fa comunque popup "inizio salita" (e non è una salita!) o fine salita su una parte della schermata che si stava guardando;

- occorrerebbe avere la possibilità di attivare o disattivare i messaggi di "inizio salita, ecc." e di fissare dei limiti minimi di pendenza e di lunghezza della salita per attivare ClimbPro, lasciando la possibilità di utilizzare quella schermata o meno.

Keeps trying to connect to smart trainer

Every time I switch to indoor training profile, it asks to pair with my smart trainer. I have this set up with TrainingPeaks Virtual, and use my power pedals to record data to my 550. It's really annoying.

Thank you, that finally worked.

This pairing process is quite poor and not intuitive. So the bottom line is if I want to use cycling dynamics I need to pair the sensors through another connection type that is not used by the default paring mode.

Default pairing mode is BLE and not ANT+ and Garmin does not say there is a different sensor naming format while pairing in ANT+ mode. How is anyone supposed to know what they’re pairing especially if they have multiple sensors? Like trial and error, pair & remove until you get what you need.

Unless this is some hard ANT+ limitation (which I doubt), this feels unnecessarily confusing and poorly designed.

Lastly, Fevero didn't do a good job by not updating their supported devices list which combined with the default BLE pairing mode got me here in the first place.

you need to search for a new power meter in the sensor menu and find the Assioma via ANT+ (it should have a 5-6digits number, not a "Favero...." name as via BT). or if it already paired , disable the Assioma BT power sensor (otherwise i assume the Edge will select and use randomly from the sensor pool) to be sure that the ANT+ comm will be used.
