In fact I did, I even recommended advance grade(1) here to one of the user..its just that its only 80-85 correct and the delay is like 3-5 seconds.

This should have been fixed a long time ago by garmin..but i guess they just dont care anymore.

I'm having issues again with latest update with gradient readings !!! Spikes of -8% and +8% everywhere !!! Absolute crazy. Have they F...k.... this again?

I am already losing hope..gradient still not working..I am now planning to sell my garmin edge 540 and just switch to wahoo.
This is already so frustrating..Garmin can't fix it anymore.

Battery drain in sleep mode

I've observed a big battery drain when device is in sleep mode. After lesss than 6 days battery level went from 39% to 10%. Not sure about the drain rate because I'm assuming the device turned itself off at 10% automatically. Before someone tries to be smart arguing against sleep mode please stop. This is clearly an issue as the device is supposed to last weeks in sleep mode and that was my previous experience. Not sure when this started happening, but at least 3 weeks ago.

edge 1040 solar no live strava segments after 31.30 update

Ive read through all of the previous threads...i think...i have tried all of the hacks and still have no live segments on the edge 1040. spent hours connecting and disconnecting all. none of the hacks worked for me. other than completely resetting the garmin unit ive tried it all. I dont want to have live segments bad enough to completely reset the device but surely Garmin you have come up with a patch by now?

IOS device, strava premium, garmin connect...garmin 1040 solar all updated to the most recent software. Garmin, any help here?

Major System Lag on Edge 540 After Updates: Delayed Map Redraws & MTB Jump Alerts Queueing

Since the latest firmware and TopoActive map updates, my Edge 540 has become incredibly sluggish. It feels like a severe CPU bottleneck.

Aside from standard navigation and map redrawing delays, sensor alerts are heavily queued and delayed.

Example: On a recent MTB ride with a few jumps close together, the Edge 540 gave no real-time feedback. Only after the trail smoothed out—30+ seconds later—did the device start popping up jump notifications one after another for features I had cleared long ago.

It seems the processor is so overwhelmed trying to render the heavy new map graphics that real-time sensor metrics (accelerometer data for MTB Dynamics) are getting deprioritized in the processing queue.

Is anyone else experiencing this UI/sensor backlog?

Garmin Edge 540 has stopped recording ascent/descent

Today my Garmin 540 recorded 0 feet altitude gain on my ride and I didn’t do my whole ride at sea level!

My Garmin Fenix watch recorded 2,100 feet. There is always a little bit of difference between my watch and bike computer but it has never recorded o before.

As I am going on a mtb trip (Norway & Sweden) next weekend I bit the built and bought a new one.

I wasn’t looking forward to going through the rigmarole of setting it up but was pleasantly surprised when it did it all using the settings on my “broken” one

However, when I tried it it doesn’t record ascent or descent. Therefore I am guessing I accidentally altered a setting on my old one hence it not working and the new one has that same altered setting. Any suggestions what I might have altered and how to “unalter”?

EDGE 540 after last update doesn't calculte accumulative meter gain. A year or so ago after an update the % of cliembs were totally off... You guys keep on making GARMIN more expensive but less reliable!! FIX

Hi everyone,

Does anyone have experience using a Garmin Edge 540/550, Edge Explore 2, Edge 840/850, or a similar Garmin device with a MAHLE X35 motor?

I own a 2025 Rose Backroad AL Plus and would like to display the motor’s telemetry data on the Garmin. Most importantly, I would like to know whether it is possible to control the assistance levels directly from the Garmin device.

Which Garmin devices and functions are compatible with the MAHLE X35?

IQ data field crash after 31.30 update

When I start activity, after a few seconds all additional data fields from IQ crash. I have to add to page all IQ data fields one by one. After that, everything works correctly.
All IQ data fields os updates.

Everything works fine on previous software. Its wery frustrating i cannot focus on the road.

Also syncing with garmin connect now requiring unlock phone and start Garmin connect app each time i start ride. Previously, the Garmin synchronized automatically with the phone.

Garmin, do you intend to do anything about this problem? I’ve tried uninstalling and reinstalling all the IQ data fields and resetting the device. Nothing worked. After starting a workout, I have to add all the fields again, and even that doesn't always work.

Hi - running into the same issue on my 540. Can anyone tell me what files I need to manually remove so that I can get the current 2026.10 files installed? I seem to have West updated to 2026. I just cannot update East where I ride as well as memory is full and I cannot seem to remove the East file and replace with the current file within Map Manager.

I would like to share some feedback regarding the process of updating maps on my Garmin Edge 540 Solar.

Device: Garmin Edge 54, FW 31.31

Garmin Express Version: 7.29.0+46140687

Map Region: TopoActive Central and Eastern Europe

First and foremost, I was unable to update the maps initially because the device reported it was out of space, even though it initially indicated there was enough storage available. I had to manually remove the existing maps and associated files from the SID and SQL folders to clear sufficient space.

After performing this manual cleanup, I reinstalled the Central and Eastern Europe maps (version 2025). Garmin Express then detected an update to version 2026.11, which I was able to install successfully.

However, after installing these latest maps, Garmin Express no longer recognizes them, and the occupied space on the device is now incorrectly categorized as "Other."

I am not seeking technical support for this issue; rather, I am providing this feedback to the Garmin team to point out that the update process was not seamless.

Additionally, since the latest maps are not being detected by Garmin Express, I am unsure how to remove them other than by manually deleting files from the internal storage again.

Note: Some people recommend removing GarminDevice.xml file to resolve the "other" maps issue. This did not help in my case.

At this point, I think there are only a few plausible explanations.

Either there is something fundamentally wrong with the electronic design around the pressure sensor, or there is a mechanical design issue that is affecting the barometric stability of the sensor itself (airflow, enclosure design, pressure equalisation, vibration, light ingress, etc.), or—perhaps even more concerning—the firmware is being released without being properly validated by engineers who actually understand barometric altimetry and the behaviour of MEMS pressure sensors.

Given that the reported behaviour changes significantly between firmware versions while the hardware remains identical, the evidence continues to point much more towards the implementation than the BMP380 itself.

What makes this particularly surprising is that we are talking about Garmin. This is a company with enormous engineering resources and decades of experience building aviation and outdoor navigation products. One would expect the firmware validation process for something as fundamental as barometric altitude and gradient calculations to be extremely rigorous.

maybe "worse" because it is more sensitive than the 280 and much better code would needed than it was in the x30 family.

btw the altitude data is pinpoint accurate, just i dont know how much autocalibrations ares made by DEM file and GNSS position during the ride. but if you watch the raw barometer data (there is a hidden menu for it), it is very fluctuating even on the desk too.

I work in the aviation and free-flight industry, where we rely extensively on the Bosch BMP380 for flight instruments. From practical experience—not just the datasheet—I can say that this sensor is capable of producing extremely precise altitude data, with effective resolution on the order of 1 cm under stable conditions when properly implemented.

That is why I don't believe this is a hardware limitation of the BMP380. The sensor itself is more than capable of delivering the performance required for accurate gradient calculations.

The real challenge lies in how the firmware acquires, filters, compensates and processes the pressure data before it is used to calculate gradient. Two devices using exactly the same BMP380 can produce very different results depending on their algorithms.

So I would be very cautious about blaming the BMP380. It has been successfully used in demanding aviation applications where altitude precision is far more critical than displaying road gradient on a cycling computer. Everything points towards a software or signal-processing issue rather than a limitation of the sensor itself.

i had a few Garmins in the past 15years, and i ride 20k per year with 2-3 devices simoultanously, so i have a small knowledge what is reliable and accurate, and what is not. the x40 was never reliable, sometimes it shows near good value (within 1-2%), sometimes way off with more %, within same day on same loops or day by day or firmware by firmware. it is a known fact and the whole forum is full with it since 3 ys. grade% "worked" means in my term : always showing the accurate value like the altitude value, but when i climb on a 10% and it shows 4% then that is a bit far from "worked". and i had more x40 devices from early production and brand new, no difference, probably this new bosch bmp380 pressure sensor is worse than its predecessor in x30 family

I cannot argue with the accuracy but based on my experience, same day, same route, same weather, there will always be a slight difference in data. It would only be concerning if the difference it too big.
One thing for sure, it is indeed a firmware/software issue as observed.

Maybe that's the reason why you said it never worked but in our experience, it was working fine before and we also know it very well too. I even compare it to other cyclo computer just to verify.

I don't agree with the idea that this is an unavoidable limitation of cycling computers.

A properly designed barometric altimeter is capable of extremely high vertical resolution—on the order of centimetres under stable conditions. The limitation is not the pressure sensor itself, but how the firmware filters, calibrates and interprets the raw pressure data while the bike is moving.

Gradient is calculated from changes in elevation over distance. If the barometric data is processed correctly, with appropriate filtering and compensation, the displayed gradient can be remarkably stable and accurate. This is why many cycling computers, including previous Garmin firmware versions, have produced reliable gradient readings for years.

What users are seeing now is not the normal level of variation expected from atmospheric pressure changes. It is inconsistent behaviour that appeared after recent firmware releases and is affecting multiple Edge models. That strongly suggests a change in the software processing pipeline rather than a fundamental limitation of barometric technology.

In other words, this is not a sensor problem—it is a data processing problem. The quality of the pressure sensor is only part of the equation; how the firmware handles its output is what ultimately determines the accuracy of the displayed gradient.

I agree with different numbers and that is normal since no cycling comp is 100% accurate specially with elevation measurements but the difference should not be that big if your laps/rounds was tested on the same invornment.

It was not a coincidence because the difference is really big and was not measuring correctly in most areas after it updated the second time.

My garmin's gradient was working before(fairly accurate).

This issue is not limited to the Edge 540. It has also been widely reported by users of the Edge 840 and Edge 1040, so this appears to be a common issue affecting multiple current-generation Edge models rather than a device-specific fault.

Unfortunately, firmware 31.33 does not appear to resolve the problem. Many users continue to report inconsistent gradient readings after updating, exactly as has been described throughout this thread.

The behaviour is also not isolated to a few individual units. Reports have been coming from users all over the world, , pointing to a global software issue rather than isolated hardware failures.

At this point, several customers have already returned their devices under warranty or decided to sell them because gradient accuracy is one of the key features they rely on for climbing, and confidence in the displayed value has been lost.

Garmin really needs to acknowledge that this issue affects multiple Edge models and provide a technical explanation of what has changed in the gradient calculation, together with a firmware fix, rather than treating each report as an isolated case.

the update status means how much users got it already (just meanwhile you rode 2-3times... if you installed it very quickly). the grade% is varying from everything , if you do rounds during a training on a hill, it gives you always different numbers in every lap. and totally different value on uphill and downhill direction on the same ascent if you test it. so as that you experienced a "good" result at first is just a coincidence but in general it is random (as you experienced at your 2nd attemt with this new fw)
