Edge 540 detects Garmin Segments, but Garmin Connect doesn't show them

I'm using Garmin Segments, not Strava Live Segments. During the ride, my Edge 540 detects the Garmin segments correctly, shows the live segment screen, and displays my final segment time at the end.

After finishing the activity, the segment results are also visible in the activity summary on the Edge, and if I open the activity in the Edge's history, the segment times are still there.

However, after syncing to Garmin Connect (both the mobile app and the web version), the activity contains no Segments tab at all. Only the normal tabs (Statistics, Climbs, Time in Zones, etc.) are shown, and my segment attempts are not listed anywhere.

Has anyone experienced this? Is this a Garmin Connect issue or a known bug?

I would like to report a reproducible issue with the Shimano STEPS integration.

Device

Garmin Edge 540
Software Version: 31.33

eBike

Shimano EP801
Latest firmware installed (verified with E-TUBE PROJECT Cyclist)
No Shimano display, only Shimano assist switch
BH Xtep Lynx Pro 0.8

Configuration

Basic Assist Mode: Works correctly.
Fine Tune Mode: Configured with 7 assist levels.

Issue

When using Basic Assist Mode, the Edge 540 correctly displays the assist levels (1–3).

When switching to Fine Tune Mode, the bike changes assistance correctly between all 7 levels, but the Edge 540 always displays assist level 0.

Battery percentage and the eBike connection work correctly, so the connection is established.

Steps to reproduce

Connect Edge 540 to a Shimano EP801.
Select Basic Assist Mode → assist level is displayed correctly.
Switch to Fine Tune Mode (7 levels).
Change assist levels using the Shimano remote.
The motor changes assistance correctly, but the Edge always shows assist level 0.

Expected behaviour

The Edge should display the active Fine Tune assist level instead of remaining at 0.

I understand that a similar issue has previously been discussed in the Garmin forums and was reportedly escalated to the engineering team. The issue is still present with Edge 540 software version 31.33.

Ride not syncing to Connect

My ride from today is saved in the history of my Edge 540, but it is not synced to Connect. The Edge is connected to my phone and to Wi-Fi. A new short 'test ride' that I recorded as an experiment is synced immediately after I stop and save it, and appears in Connect. But my longer ride from earlier today remains only in the Edge history but does not appear in Connect. Is there another way to send my ride again to Connect (just syncing the devices doesn't help)?

Strange…. Still no joy here. Which device & OS are you running? Ive an Edge 540 and MacOS. If i could access the .fit file the upload would be an option but I cant get at it.

Garmins do this every now and again. Seem to stop connecting overnight. Mine is able to update maps, but won't sync today's ride.

The APAC model is basically the same. There is an additional file on those units for a GPS location shift for China, but nothing I can think of that would account for a time offset. All times should be in UTC and then a time zone map offset is applied. The smallest time zone shifts are 15 minutes for regions line Nepal.

Hello, friends! I need your help. I've encountered a subtle but very annoying problem with GPS time synchronization. When I use multi-band mode, the time is synced incorrectly, 1.5-2 minutes ahead. When I switch to any other mode, the time syncs correctly with other sources, such as my computer, smartphone, and so on. I think it wouldn't be difficult for you to test this on your devices and sync the time in different modes to see if this issue occurs on your devices.

This is really annoying. With this error, I can't see that I'm riding with friends on Strava. Strava Flybus also works incorrectly, showing me and my friends riding in different places, with a lag of those same 2 minutes.

but the GNSS spoofing is not affecting the time, that is affecting the coordinates.

if you are brave, you can do a master reset (or just deleting the device.fit and garmindevices.xml at first).

if you make a new sport profile, that has also this bug? where do you change the gnss settings on the fly, in the main GNSS menu, or under the activity profile submenus?

aweatherall it is APAC model as i know, not international, maybe that is different?!

I'm located in the Ural region of Russia.

As far as I know, we don't receive the Japanese QZSS or the Indian NavIC (IRNSS) satellites here, so I don't think they are involved.

However, electronic warfare (GNSS jamming/spoofing) systems are sometimes — and in some areas possibly even continuously — active here. I'm starting to think that this could be one of the main reasons for the issue, or perhaps it's related to the specific combination of GNSS satellites visible in this region.

Since no one else seems able to reproduce the problem, it may be something that only occurs under these regional conditions.

What part of the world are you located in?

What GPS software version does the Edge show? Should be 16.01

aviod the auto gnss, then use the stable MultiGNSS or GPS only then. (if only the MultiBand-MultiGNSS is the problematic)

i dont know how is the IRNSS or QZSS reception there, maybe the IRNSS L5 is the culprit (in Central EU or West EU where i live, these sat systems are not received but in Asia it has coverage)

I have already tested both.

A complete power-off and restart does not fix the issue. The time offset between GNSS modes is still there.

I also deleted the gmaptz.img file and synced the device again with Garmin Express, but unfortunately that didn't help either.

At the moment, the only workaround is to avoid using the Multi-band GNSS mode.

I have considered using the Auto GNSS mode instead, but I'm a bit concerned that if the device switches between GNSS modes during an activity, it might change the system time in the middle of the recording and corrupt the timestamps in the FIT file. I haven't tested this yet, so I'm not sure whether that can actually happen.

but if you switch it off completely and on, do you still have this offset between the GNSS modes?

i assume you have the latest 31.33 (?) fw also and the latest time zone file (you can try to delete the gmaptz file from the Garmin folder and re-sync it again with Garmin Express or via wifi/BT, maybe it helps but i dont think)

i think it is an APAC version-related problem. aweatherall what do you think about it?

I usually put the device into sleep/suspend mode after each ride rather than powering it off completely.

Also, this issue is not limited to Strava Flyby. The Garmin itself changes the system time when I switch the GPS mode to Multi-band. The time shown on the device immediately jumps about 1.5–2 minutes ahead compared to my phone and computer. When I switch back to any other GPS mode, the time syncs correctly again.

So the problem is in the Garmin itself, not in Strava.

and do you turn off the unit completely after every ride or just put in sleep/suspend mode and start from this state? and is it only on flyby or if you put a time of the day datafield on Garmin, is that also in 2.5min delay comparing to an accurate clock?

Yes, there is definitely an offset. When I switch the mode from multi-band to standard GNSS, the time jumps back by two minutes and then aligns with the actual time. The GPS version is 16.01, and the Garmin unit itself is the Asian version. My wife rides with an iGPSPORT BSC200, and the time on hers is correct. A possible reason is that electronic warfare systems are activated—either intermittently or perhaps constantly—in the area where I live.

are you sure that your unit has time offset? what kind of devices did your friends use (wahoo maybe?), can you share a strava link where this flyby offset exists?

i use 840 with multi-multi and i have (or had) no such a flyby offset

do you have international version or apac or any spec one?

gps firmware 16.01?
