520 Plus Crashing on both Update 4.1 & 4.2

My 520 Plus is crashing after both recent firmware updates, 4.1 & 4.2. I have factory reset it and done the "Check a Garmin Mass Storage Device for Errors" (no errors were found). I tried support but got nowhere, the person ignored all the info I entered into the chat prior to starting the support chat and just kept asking questions I already answered. So I have no confidence that they passed on the info, so I figured I would enter it here.

I have the following connected:

PowerTap P1 pedals

Garmin Bike Speed Sensor - model # 010-12103-00

Turning off the connection to the speed sensor seems to have solved it but I haven't ridden over an hour. I am somewhat limited to riding indoors for short periods due to bruised ribs, so I can test it for a longer period.

I recently had problems with my 520+ repeatedly crashing (running 4.1 at the time). I contacted Garmin Support, and they had me reinstall the firmware using Webupdater, (although I can't remember the exact procedure). Has been rock solid ever since, including on very long rides.

Hi, I am not having a problem with the new software, yet. But I am having issues with Garmin support. They are useless. Like in your case, they keep asking for the same info over and over. It is clearly a delay tactic aimed at increasing frustration so that the consumer just gives up out of sheer frustration.

I tried the WebUpdater - it didn't work. Crashed after 50 minutes but it lasted 2x longer than previously. It will only not crash if I turn off the connection to the Speed Meter.

Yeah - it's a crapshoot on getting someone with the ability to help.

How does the crash happen? Is it turning the unit off?

Yes - the screen blanks out in the middle of a ride and I have to press the power button to restart. It keeps the ride info and I just have to restart the session. Sometimes it will crash again after ten minutes. Other times it makes it through the rest of the ride. But again, I'm only riding for 90 minutes.

I forgot, I am using workouts from the training calendar that are synced from Training Peaks. I'm not sure if that is a variable in the issue. When it first started crashing, I was using the Connect IQ app for Training Peaks to import the workout, but when I reset it, I lost that app and moved to the Training Calendar Transfer.

Ok yes I'm experiencing the same thing--really hoping it is software bug--I've just passed a year owning it. I use several Connect IQ fields as well (Xert).
