Sms and call notifications

I have a Garmin Edge 520 and I noticed that if I connect it by bluetooth to my phone, and my phone doesn't have internet connectivity at the moment, I will not receive sms ou call notifications until I turn it on.
It seems Garmin Connect needs it to synchronize something at least once. After that you can turn the internet off and it keeps working.

My question is, why is that? Why should internet connectivity affect direct notifications between two bluetooth devices?

FWIW I tried it with my Iphone 6 and it displays notifications without having been connected to the internet. Do you have the latest firmware and app versions?

Do you have location services on in your phone settings? I believe Garmin Connect needs for it to be on.

Garmin Support says it's a known problem and it's going to be addressed in future updates

I'm using android. All latest versions.

I'm running Samsung S5 - latest version and 520, latest version works fine

i'm having trouble also, i have an iPhone 4s and i just got the 520 last week. i've tried and the phone and 520 say connected but no text or calls show on the 520. i clueless, it's not a deal breaker for me but i would like to take full advantage of the unit.

Have you made the second bluetooth connection called BLE_Edge? After making the initial connection, BT_Edge, the Connect app needs to be opened. After that the second connection should be available to select in the Iphone settings.

I recently upgraded from iPhone 6s to 7 and Bluetooth LE (SMS and alerts) no longer works. Phone cannot find the BLE device when trying to pair and I am following instructions). Normal Bluetooth works fine. Any sugggestions?
