Varia RearVue 820 Battery Indicator

I understand the BATTERY data field in the LIGHTS menu is supposed to how the lowest battery of those lights that are connected. When I used an older Varia radar with my UT800 headlight, this worked fine.

However, since upgrading to the Varia RearVue 820, EDGE doesn't show it's battery life. If I connect just the RV820, Connected Lights = 1, but the battery indicator shows nothing. When I then connect the UT800, Connected Lights remains at 1 & now I see battery life. If I try the opposite order, I still only get Connected Lights = 1 & only see battery life once the UT800 is connected.

I know there is a new RADAR data screen with the RV820, but unless I missed it I don't think it has a battery life indicator. Only place I've found a battery indicator for the RV820 is in the IOS app - while I keep that app open to get audio alerts via BT to compensate for the EDGE's low volume, it's in a pocket & there is no audible 'low-battery' alert.

Am I missing anything here? Assume EDGE should be picking this up the same as it has with older versions? I know there are third-party data fields that specifically show battery life for Varia units, but to my knowledge none of these have been updated to work with the RV820.

I just updated to latest firmware and now the map screen just shows Acquiring Satellites. It shows a GPS firmware update is starting (even though I jus just a firmware update) and a minute later that it is successful. However, the Acquiring Satellites message remains. I power off and power on and the same cycle starts over again. I have seen messages from other users in a Facebook group mentioning the same thing starting 4 days ago.

Installed the latest firmware 31.30, but still no GPS. I've restarted multiple times. Waited 30m in open air. Nothing...
The navigation is stuck with the chevron on 1 place and a blinking ? in it. After start I see an GPS firmware update.

Worked great prior to update to 30.18. Now almost useless to see what is coming.

A picture is worth a 1000 words. Two pictures worth more..

‘’in each instance I have over 1/2 mile to go but it is showing me lots of “where I have been” (gray) and very little “what’s coming”

a bug? Any way to downgrade to prior version. Ugh!

My Edge 1050 keeps freezing on start up with the message Loader 30.18. I've tried resetting everything as per the online instructions and sometimes it will boot up - but then I can't start an activity as all the buttons freeze. I've cleared the cache and temporary files etc but it's still not working. Can anyone help please?

After upgrading, I went on a ride and noticed none of my metrics were updating (speed, HR, Power etc). But I could still hear the ride start/stop alerts so I knew I the bg it might have still been recording. I had to do a hard reset in order to fix it. When it booted back up, it worked fine.

That's what is working for me too at the moment. Another weird thing was that all of the maps on the device disappeared when I updated. I had to re-download them with Garmin Express.

I have two bikes with SRAM eTap and one with eTap AXS. They're the only sensors I have connected to the 1050. On all three bikes, I see the following problems:

1. Whenever I have a brief pause - e.g. having to stop at traffic lights - the data fields for the eTap gearing (gear combination, gear battery level, etc) go blank, and when I start off again they remain blank until I change gear, at which point the fields are then re-populated. I also saw this same problem with 31.18, but it didn't happen with older versions of the 1050 firmware. On the older FW, the data fields would go blank during a brief stop, but would re-populate as soon as I started moving again without a gear change being needed.

2. If I have an extended stop - eg a coffee break towards the end of a ride - then when I start again to complete the ride, the 1050 cycles every few seconds through the sequence of connecting to eTap, which populates the data fields, then disconnecting, so the fields go blank, then a few seconds later re-connecting, etc. This cycle just repeats until I either finish the ride and stop the activity, or power-cycle the 1050. I have noticed that this second problem only happens when I also have a bluetooth connection from the 1050 to the Connect app on my phone. If I don't have bluetooth enabled on the phone, then I don't get the problem.

After restarting your Garmin no messages anymore on GPS Firmware updating? And GPS Version is also still on 16.01 (and never goes to 0.0 anymore)?

My workaround now just is not full powering off but only using Sleep (short press of power button).

Interesting. I again spoke with Garmin. They refused to send me a new or refurbished unit. They said since the units are already boxed there is every reason to believe they are similarly infected or will become infected at the first synch. The solution : wait it out with no end in sight.

Got a recertified unit back from the support this time. Updated to 31.29 and everything seems to work! It don't find the latest update 31.30, but i think i leave it there. I will start use it and see how it works.

My Edge 1050 stopped giving audible prompts for turns on routes. This has worked since I got it new a few years ago but suddenly it no longer works. What should I do?
