Where to find the "ON-DEVICE GEAR TRACKING"?

I got this beautiful Garmin email about the latest software update. In the attached flyer there is the focus on Gear Tracking:

GEAR TRACKING ON YOUR EDGE® DEVICE 

 Assign and edit gear or gear collections directly from your Edge device for every ride to track the life of each unique bike setup — from drive train components and wheels to tyres and even the cleats on your cycling shoes. See progress bars on-device and get notifications, via the Garmin Connect app on your connected smartphone, when gear is approaching its end of life. 

But, totally no information on where to find this new feature, how to set it up or how to use it.

Or is it not released yet?

    I've been a loyal Garmin customer for over 20 years, but I've always said that the software department is made up of the descendants of The Three Stooges. Why would you send an email extolling the new feature and not tell you how to use it? It's mind boggling!

    Same here, I don't see it. I do see a "Gear Selection" toggle under my activity profiles, which I hadn't noticed before—but I can't figure out what its actual effect is, and enabling it doesn't prompt me for any gear info when either starting or ending an activity.

    (I'm running version 31.30 on an Edge 1040.)

    I've been tracking maintenance schedules my own way, but this could be a really nice feature to have depending on how it works.

    I was able to add gears but only via Garmin Connect App on my phone. So far,  they've been tracked without problem. Though I didn't found any option for that in my Garmin Edge 540 device. I was only able to add/see my added gears (chain, bottom Bracket, etc.) in my phone's Garmin App besides in my Garmin Connect via website.

    To clarify, I do have my bikes as "gear" in Garmin Connect, which tracks their overall mileage. What I don't see is a way to track the maintenance intervals of their components as shown in the screenshot above, either on my Edge or in the app.

    I added the hardware of my bike, like chain or bottom bracket, etc. by clicking in add gear. Then, it came a box with several options like bike, bike components, etc. I selected bike part and I added different stuff of my bike that I want to track. 

    This is what I got for my chain and bottom bracket of one of my bikes. When you click to add a new gear, this is what it comes:

    and I included all the information I need to know and in order to be tracked. Afterwards, the device appears like the first screenshot I included here.Hopefully helps...It can be also done in the phone's Garmin App

    Thanks. This brings me closer to the answers. 
    I now tried the same and added a chain as bike component. After that I made a collection were I combined the bike and chain. And set the collection’s default activity to Road cycling. 
    After a short ride the chain has now used 60km of the set 1000 (rewax point). 
    Could this be what Garmin meant?

    as of the last few yrs, the three stooges would be a big improvement on most garmin employees who are involved in software and device design

    Same here. I can add gear on Garmin Connect. Appears fine in the app, but nothing to be found on the 1050 (Version 31.30). Typical...

    I would say, the integration of that features in the 1050 is not released yet. But you can choose / accept the gear or gear collection, when you save an activity.
